Thanks Slylee but I already understood her underlying rationalizations from her earlier post.
As for your other ideas: I'm a person who can't take orders. My reaction to being bossed around is generally to play along and then betray the would-be boss at the most sensitive possible moment. I'm pretty sure that makes me a bad fit for the military.
Hitman isn't a bad choice, though. I could see myself doing that.

I think the way kids turn out has more to do with genes than anything else, assuming the parents don't screw up in a really extreme way (malnourishment, abuse, etc.).

I'm not sure. Kids love me, and I like them too. But, is life something I'd wish to someone else? Would I want to raise a child? I think I may end up adopting a child that is already in this mess we call world, rather than spawning a couple of brats to replace myself.

I don't think I will have kids naturally, but there is a possibility that I may adopt one day.

Shit man... last thing you want is to end up with one that has the retard gene or a family history of mental illness.... or something crazy.

Because an adopted child is already alive - it's already here. It's different than bringing someone else to this world because you're not adding one more needy kid to the context.
As for my genes, we're not that much different to begin with. I don't think there are "outsiders" to begin with, unless you can prove me the child was brought to Earth by sneaky aliens that want to know what a human family is like.
Unlikely as it is (the alien origin, that is), I can't see a reason not to adopt a child.

You can find out about the child's genes before you adopt as well.

This is a good point. It's instinctual for a man to want to spread their seed and ensure that the offspring is their own. It is too taxing to take care of a child that isn't your own, especially when it wont ensure that your genes are going to thrive. Evolutionary lag?

Evolutionary lag? That sounds so condescending. You're making it seem like it's somehow wrong to want your own offspring. Guess what? It's not.

Nah, it's not condescending... it's just reality.
People have fears of heights and spiders because of evolutionary lag. It's something that is "built into us" and we haven't evolved from it entirely. There are some men who simply cannot get over the fact that it isn't their own offspring, despite how evolved and "superior" a species we claim to be. It's not to say that these men are inferior or something. Hell, I am terrified of spiders... I am lagging too
Just Anthropology babble.

You're an anthropologist like Slylee's a psychologist.

LOL!
Not claiming to be an anthropologist... just pointing it out. Who knows, I could be way off the mark, but it seems to be the most logical reason behind the serious aversion to adopting "some creepy outsider".
