Then there was my friend's room mate who had a massive gambling addiction and owed a bunch of people money and shit. He took off for three or so days and left behind all of these elaborate envelopes with notes addressed to people in his life apologizing for everything and being very cryptic. The envelopes had pictures, cards, videotapes, other personal trinkets...

The police caught him before he had the chance to get where he was going - which was a plane to Las Vegas.

He was charged with all kinds of counts of fraud. Turns out he had been showing their apartment for months and just keeping the deposit money.
