Why is everyone complaining...No one else has brought TRANCE acts the entire year but Gryphon, other then PVD @ SPACE! Why don't you guys go rant on LP or Louis Diaz on why they're not booking Trance acts either? In the end guys Donnie is right, it's all about BUSINESS $$$ and trance people are known not to spend that much at the bar.

THANK YOU! Your exactly right its not as easy as picking up the phone and saying hey I wanna give you $5,000 to come play. You have to jump through hoops with some of these guys. Especially when their are with an agency, usually requires you book a couple of their smaller acts first.

I've made it known that trance needs to be down here more often and trust me its in the works but this isn't fucking peaches and cream booking these guys. At the end of the day I don't have the final decision unless its my money on the line, not the clubs.

i think the point some of us are trying to make is that if gryphon just didnt care about making as much money on a couple nights by bringing trance, at the end of the day it would still benefit them more in the long run. rather than being so short sighted and saying "trance doesnt make money at the bar" and never booking trance again, think about what such an awesome like a&b did for gryphon. people will be talking about that night for awhile and people who werent there will hear how awesome it was and then want to go to gryphon. at the end of the day, you could actually make more money on an epic night like a&b with all the residual effects from it. lol. "residual". i wonder where i got that from. fucking fits perfectly though doesnt it? anyway... no one is saying to bring nothing but trance. but bringing in a few more trance artists from time to time will help the club grow. and even if you make a little less money on bar sales a couple nights out of the year, you'll make it up on other nights because of the influx of people who will want to see why people keep talking about gryphon. we all understand the business aspect of it. we all get that trance kids take pills and dont drink anything but water and red bull. we all get that cokeheads drink more. etc etc. but has anyone said ticket prices need to be $10 like in orlando or tampa? no. we dont mind paying $25 or more to get in because its rare we get these kinda shows down here. go ahead and make your money, thats fine, but how much money are you really losing on trance shows when you're charging $8 for a beer and $7 for water? im sure you get the water at a cheaper price too. i dunno, i dont know that part of the business as im not a club owner, promoter, or even employee. but i digress... does anyone get what im saying? by saying "case closed, trance shows dont make enough money because of bar sales" you're cutting out a huge part of the market and limiting your potential. dont think that trance is just a losing cause because its not. look at how massive this thread is and how people are fighting for you guys to bring more trance? doesnt that say something?

We didn't lose money at all. I'm playing both sides of the fields here: In the clubs eyes they didn't make the same money they would as bringing a techno or house or resident dj in but in the same breath they are very happy because that was an amazing party, thats the great thing about our owners its not always about making the most profit, they love when its a good party. I'm saying that it was a great night of music and the energy was amazing and it was a great party. That doesn't mean we aren't going to bring more trance acts because we're going too. We have been bringing trance acts and will continue to bring trance acts. Your point that the club will grow, is exactly what I'm trying to do. Sure I make a cut when I bring people into the club, sure I plug my events on here now but at the end of the day I could careless about the money as long as the party is fucking EPIC!!

I'm just trying to defend myself when people say bring "great talent" and we'll come out or Trance DJ a > Trance DJ b, at least we bring you trance. But to continue to bring trance we need help from trance kids to support other genres.

Answer me this question, this is how I look at from my standpoint
What is the gain for us to bring trance to the people that want it but their only gonna come out to our club when Trance is booked? But our regular guests who love the club will come out no matter whos playing because they know we throw one hell of a party......just a rhetorical question and I bring it up because people on here have stated you bring the talent and we'll come up but we do bring talent on a weekly basis

We have had the pleasure of having some great djs grace the decks be it techno, house, tech house, trance and ect. We do bring great talent and we have been the only club to consistently bring trance for the past year outside of WMC. Give us some credit for making the effort and sticking our necks out on these bookings

You are asking whether anyone loves the music anymore? You are claiming that people should go out for the love of music and asking whether anyone can have fun WITHOUT GETTING DRUNK. Talk about contradicting yourself. Make up your mind Donnie. Do you want people to go out for the love of music or to drink their asses off to maximum levels in order to increase Gryphon's bar sales and bottom line profits as much as possible???????

And your claim that bar sales are too low for trance events is one of the top 10 BS "excuses" clubs & promoters have always resorted to when trying to justify not booking trance. LP would be proud of you, and expects a royalty check as he has a patent and copyright on that "no-trance" excuse. In fact the VIP tables were full last week for A&B, which counts as bar sales. And there is no way you or anyone else can claim that on a regular night Gryphon does anywhere near as good as last Friday. I have been there before & know they do not.

Anyways good luck with the bookings. Book who you want and the market will let you know if you made the right choices or not. Just when on TA focus on the bottom line, results and save the excuses for not getting us more trance. That way the argument can end ....

Have to disagree. If Space were not around the last 10 years someone else would be doing the same thing and mixing it up with much better bookings than Space right now. LP just took advantage of a market that was there, did so nicely, but seems bored with it already. In fact right now Patrick M is a better DJ than 90% of the guests they bring to the terrace. Space used to have good booking agents until about 2006, since then it has steadily gone to complete shit. Note the techno loft lineups are clearly done by someone else, even if approved by Space. Last year they were so much better than the terrace, even if they are starting to slack a little now as well. LP probably cut their budget & started denying their requests

And in your prior posts you keep writing about how great the scene was in the late 90s and how you wish we could go back to those days. Well here's a news flash for you: Space did not exist until March 2000. So clearly the scene did exist before Space & would've survived if Space never existed, or now ceased to exist ...

Donnie, I want to thank you for being very involved in the forum in regards to responding to all the posts, both positive and negative. It show's that you do care about the scene and are not just trying to promote events. I've seen promoters that join the forum to promote an event and you never hear from them again. keep it up, it's greatly appreciated.

Yea we book a couple of the same djs other clubs do but for the most part we do our thing and bring a different lineup than the norm. I don't like trance at all but I have traveled a couple of times now to catch trance shows and have enjoyed myself at each one, haven't like the music all the time but still had fun at the parties. I do travel to see things I can see in my own back yard actually. I like to support the local guys. If its in south florida on the weekend I'll travel to see Patrick, LP, Roland and Edgar V and if I'm not working I'll make a trip up north if their playing in Tampa, Orlando or Naples. I didn't have to go see A&B last week but I'm glad I did and if they come back in the area I'll travel to see them. You don't know you don't like something until you have gone out to experience it. I have seen numerous DJ's at other clubs every where in the states and around the world but you catch that same DJ at Gryphon and it just seems that they always bring their A game in that room. You can ask around and I'm sure you'll get the same response, shit my girlfriend hated Cedric Gervais, she saw him in that room and loved him, he laid it the fuck down, best set I've ever seen from him, I'm even sure you can probably agree with me on that point.

I did contradict myself but if you would of read the post above you, I have to play both sides of the field, from the business aspect and the guest aspect. I love the music and don't have to get hammered to have a great time but that doesn't mean that I won't drink a 6 pack when I'm out and contribute to the venue.

Its funny all of you think its so easy to book whoever is out there, well its not. A lot of these guys have exclusive contracts or their agents require you to book smaller acts before you get who you want or their booking fees are so outrageous they play themselves right out of the market.

Sure all the tables were sold on Friday night but whats funny is Saturday was actually a more profitable night for us. We sell most of our tables when we're open. I'll be the first to admit our Friday nights have fallen off since last August but we're in the process of revamping them. So far it has been damn good every Friday in there since we've been doing that.

Now the trance excuse really can't be a "BS excuse" as you say, since numbers don't lie and it seems to happen at every venue down here. Sure we were profitable but in the end it was a fucking EPIC party and thats why we're gonna bring trance acts back.

Thanks for filling me in that Space opened in 2000, I know when it open. I help out with events over there and my partner is one of the head promoters. I was at work and missed putting in the early 2000's, also, my bad lol.

In all honesty the scene down here would not of survived with out Space. You say someone would of come in and done what LP did but better, I call that BS. LP is a visionary and a great businessmen. No other club owner in there right mind would of come into that war zone of downtown and did what he did, everyone else would say fuck that shit hole. LP is the reason for the 24hr liquor license, now the banana republic we call Dade county is trying to fuck him, but thats a whole other topic. So I digress. If it wasn't for him the area wouldn't have been cleaned up to its state today, the property values wouldn't have increased and there sure as hell wouldn't be any other clubs in that shit hole of an area. You say someone else would of done it and better go ask the Nocturnal guys how well their doing, shit I'll tell you, they are doing horrible and the building is in foreclosure as they owe over 5 million dollars on it and haven't paid their mortgage in a long time. Good thing Glenn has 9 lives or they would be toast. The building was supposed to be auctioned off last week, but the bank fucked the paperwork up, so the auction has been put on hold. They won't be around for much longer.

We have been booking who we wanted and the market is telling us that we are doing excellent we have sold out our previous 4 shows that we're ticketed and packed house with the big bookings that we did guest list for. Don't worry though we're gonna get some more trance in here for the TA crew.

FYI: We bring Dubfire every November. Zabiela is exclusive with Opium group, Carl Cox exclusive with Ultra. I'm working on Hawtin, Beyer and my all time favorite Mr. Ricardo Villalobos. Ritch and Faniculli are both on my list that I turn in for bookings. If I had the final decision you would see a totally different lineup but in the end its not my money being risked to bring these guys here.

We're all friends here lol I know all the input is constructive but give it up to us we brought more trance in one year than every other club combined down here in the past 3 years

Welcome I'm glad I could get on here and shake it up a bit. Sure I'll throw my events in, its my job but at the end of the day I'm a music head and do everything for the love of the music. Like I said before I don't care if I make a dime as long as at the end of the day its a great party!!
