I would wait for official announcement. I heard this from a pretty good source but that was like 2 months ago.

We are excited to announce that one entire stage at Beyond Wonderland 2011 will be dedicated to one of EDM's earliest sounds. "The Chess Village" will feature a collection of today's top Techno innovators. While Techno has always been part of Insomniac's festivals and many of Techno's finest have graced the stages, until now, there has never been an area focused completely on this sound.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the beginning there was House. Well technically in the beginning there was influences from a broad set of music genres including the 1970's disco, early Hip Hop, R&B and electronic music based groups like Kraftwerk. In the early 80's DJ's like Frankie Knuckles, often referred to as the Godfather of House, started mixing these influences together live with a mixer and two turntables, reconstructing their sounds, adjusting their tempos, and layering percussive beats over one another to create a new dance sound. House and Electronic Dance Music was born.

The initial blueprint for Techno was developed during the mid-1980s in a suburb of Deroit by Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, and Eddie Fowlkes. All 4 producers, having been fascinated by the Chicago club scene and influenced by house, began to make music of there own. At first the sound didn't have a name, sometimes it was characterized as Detroit's high-tech interpretation of Chicago house rather than a pure genre unto itself. By the late 1980's the intreat in EDM began to explode. Sub genres were coined by artists that began to play the new style of dance music all over the world. The 1988 UK release of "Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit" was an important milestone and marked the introduction of the word Techno in reference to a specific genre of music. The compilation's working title originally had been "The House Sound of Detroit" but after some persuasion from Atkins, May, and Saunderson the title was reconsidered and Techno as a genre was born.

By the late 1980s and early '90s, Techno had also garnered a large underground following in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium. The growth of Techno's popularity in Europe in this time period was largely due to the emergence of the party scene and a thriving club culture. Soon a second wave of Detroit Techno artists including Carl Craig, Octave One, Stacey Pullen, Jeff Mills, and Robert Hood began to emerge pushing their own unique take on the sound. A number of New York producers were also making an impression at this time, notably Frankie Bones, Lenny Dee, and Joey Beltram. In the same period, close to Detroit in Windsor Ontario, Richie Hawtin, with business partner John Acquaviva, launched the influential imprint Plus 8 Records. Many of these artist spent a great deal of time in Europe or even moved there. Over time Berlin became known as the capital of Techno of the world with may Techno artists still treating it today as a Mecca for the sound.

With its origins in the USA and a stronghold in Europe, Techno continues to grow and evolve to this day. Sub genres like Minimal have become recognized as their own sound and most other genres under the EDM umbrella have a techie version that draws from the Techno sound.

We are thrilled to introduce a Techno stage to the Beyond Wonderland 2011 lineup! Stay tuned in! The Chess Village artists will be released this Thursday at 4pm pst.

props on this! very glad to see insomniac taking techno seriously! now lets see the line up!

Probably gonna book Doc Martin. There used to me minimal stages at Insomniac events. I remember the last HSII and Noc 09 having tech/minimal stages.

I told myself I'm done with these festivals except EDC, but the banning of those stupid lights along with that lineup is too good. I've been dying to see Hawtin for 3 years. Touche Insomniac, touche

Damn it! If I would of known ahead of time I would of gotten a plane ticket earlier on for that stage. Guess I'll just have to see if Hawtin, Osuna, Carola and Loco Dice will be at DEMF.
