Why is waiting so essential? If you both feel secure about each other's feelings and trust each other, I don't see the need to make someone wait any longer.

Maybe it takes some people longer to feel fully comfortable with / trust somebody enough to sleep with them. Some people take it a lot more seriously than others.

Well yea, obviously if the waiting increases the security you feel towards each other etc., then that would be OK, but otherwise I fail to see the point.
