Thanks Dave, I was about to basically post the same thing. I figure RabbitJoker is one of these people that actually believes that corporations are the engines of the economy. NeoCons treat economics as a religion and any economic discussion that doesn't coincide with their particular ideology is nothing short of heresy. It's this particular attitude that has caused companies to stop taking innovation seriously. 40 years ago, R&D was most large companies biggest expense. Nowadays, if said company even has an R&D division, it's an afterthought. The biggest expense now is marketing, or as I like to refer to it, "How do we repackage our old crappy product and con consumers to throw away good money after bad, rather than develop something new that's actually more efficient, more durable, and more useful".
That said, I will give props to companies who do still push the envelope. If it wasn't for RIM, you wouldn't have the newest generation of SmartPhones. If it wasn't for the porn industry, you wouldn't have most e-commerce, security, and interactive web technologies. Good on them; everybody else - get off the golf course and get to work!

Resources are also finite though so it's a whole different can of worms than other organisations that can operate indefinitely.
If you look at the oil sands we're subsidizing American companies so that they can turn a profit out of something which is not naturally profitable. Sure it creates jobs but so would spending that money on other investments as well.

Soooo much conservative generated fear mongering going on. They truly do employ the lowest form of campaigning...
