Because nothing new has been submitted to it It sends me an e-mail whenever someone does. Someone sent me some spreadsheets the other day with a bunch of keys, but I fear that the majority of them may have to be input manually. Ah well. Keep submitting though

Hi, just got this one today and i found both to be major. That's (C) 1999 G and Radiate A. Not sure though, I just started keying my records some weeks ago. It would be great if someone else can confirm this.

Cheers,

hey everybody!

i wanted to let you know that i've assimilated all the data from this thread and from harmonics.defined.org into mixshare.com's central server, which is accessed via the software rapid evolution... the mixshare server now contains ~33,000 keyed/bpmed tunes, plus other important information!

if you haven't checked out the program already, it will really be a valuable asset to anybody in this thread. not only does it have automatic key/bpm detection (which i agree djs shouldn't rely on!!), it has tools to help manually verify this information, such as a built in midi keyboard and bpm tappers... not only that, it will let you easily view your music to see which songs are in key with each other, so you don't have to remember the details while mixing... best of all, it saves all this essential information for you (such as which songs work well together) so you can refer to it live... and it's free! :-)

to give you an idea, here's a screenshot:

so check it out... at the very least, it's an easy way to share all of this information without having to post or query a web page, as the songs you enter into it are available to every other user... cheers!

true, you never know the accuracy... however the app has plenty of tools to manually verify the information. the server is designed to average out multiple values submitted to return the most probable correct information, so as users correct any incorrect info the data will become more and more accurate (in theory, hehe). it would be no less accurate than the exchange of keys anywhere else ;-)

I believe it is somewhat less accurate than information in our database. Software key detection programs seem to provide around 60% accuracy. Our database is over 95% accurate.

i don't think it's fair to use the automatic detection as the basis of comparison, because the tool actually empowers you to learn and listen for the keys yourself. i agree with camelot in that tunes keyed by trained ears are the best. but it's up to you whether you'd rather pay for this info and be dependent upon someone else or learn it yourself. the automatic detection is nice as a rough estimate until you can get around to keying it by ear, which we all know takes time. what quicker way would there be to accomplish the task of keying music than to share this info collectively?

speaking of which, the mixshare server currently has ~49,000 songs. you can now search the database online as well :-) (although kind of slow at the moment)...

I have to agree with CS.
Detection tools may open up the world of Harmonics but in truth it has far more value if you actually learn the method yourself. Take time to learn you never know what you may come of it.

lol--so we all agree tunes keyed by trained ears are the best. whether you learn to do this yourself or buy the key information from camelot, i still think the program could be useful to you...
