I have the video on my computer and you'd have to be very hard pressed to give that as a foul really. I've watched it many times and to be honest that was a pathetic effort from Ricardo to save the ball. He just jumps into Terry's armpit. I've been in goal in situations like that and the easiest way to get a foul in scrambles is jumping into someone. Professionals know that too and this is a classic example. He was miles away from the ball and didn't have a chance against Campbell.

btw, wasn't there some play where we supposedly scored but the ref didn't give the goal to us neither? i don't remember it very well, cause of all the emotion and the beers, but some people were talking about it in other site. it's one of those plays where you shoot into the crossbar, it goes in and out again

Could you show us this video somehow? And while I agree that he probably couldn't have prevented the goal either way, those pics show that Terry has a firm grip around Ricardo's shoulder. I seriously doubt that he could somehow have jumped into Terry's grip like that.

@ paranoik0: Yea, there was a crossbar shot that went down on the goal line. Question is was it over it or not.

There is only a replay from behind the goal angle. But thats the best angle I believe. One thing that is a giveaway is right after the incident ricardo walks to the ref with his hands to his face like he got elbowed or something. So obviously even he didnt know what the foul was given for and was trying to justify an elbow there. And another thing, he didnt even jump. He just stuck into Terry. You can see that clearly on normal speed. Weird.

However, this is a very iffy one, Terry's arm is definitly around some part of Ricardo at some point close when to Campbell heads the ball but 1 thing must be asked: did he put it there? Your call really but I feel the call could very, very easily have gone the other way without much complaint. The linesman seems to think so too.

edit: another thing, people seem to compare this to Campbell's disallowed goal vs Argentina in WC 98. Ridiculous really because that was a clear foul. Shearer really laid it into the goalie back then. I love soccer. So much drama.

If I had Terry's arm clutching my shoulder like on those pics I wouldn't have much of a chance to jump up either. I assume that's what he wanted to complain about when he went to the ref. And we all know the portugese aren't exactly subtle when it comes to signaling that they are fouled..

I think a part of me is talking out of experience. I have never played in a professional game (i.e. get paid for it) but I have played semi-pro all my life and sometimes got in goal. Im just saying in situations like that when the goalie is not that tall and has no hope against 6 ft defenders they tend to be opportunistic. It may all seem a blurry of excitement to the fans but these guys are pros and its all slow mo in their heads.

ALl said and done, England is out. And people will say this and that but the bottom line is they should never have defender such a slender lead for so long. Although they did defend well the odds were against them not to concede a goal. This team is good I think and had it not been for a 2 min stroke of great misfortune they may very well have been playing Greece tomorrow.

Then again, thats football. Kudos to Portugal.

Yeah, it goes in and out, but no-one talks about it... it's just the talk about the (SUPPOSED) unfairly disallowed goal (that for me it's a fair decision). Anyway, either it was or it wasn't, the score won't change because of that. We won. Next time, you'll win. That's the way footie goes. And we needed to get even with those 0-10 of 1947...
