Yes and no, of course it's about PVD, but it should also be about the night as a WHOLE, not JUST the main act.. But its to be expected i suppose, it is PVD

locals are the backbone of any scene and without them there wouldn't be anyone pushing underground sounds inbetween big events making them impossible to even happen. Yes of course everyone will be there to see PVD, but in some ways that's actually part of the problem with the way things sit at the moment (especially with trance and progressive).

When the scene was a lot more healthy late last century () the support for local DJ's was much more solid and I think this is one of the big factors to how things have changed today. The fact that Vodafone Arena can be jam packed to the rafters last weekend but most progressive trance/trance nights in Melbourne (playing lost of the same music if you look at the tracklistings) are struggling is testament to this mentality. It’s unfortunate, but comments like yours above illustrate it perfectly.

Hopeufully Kiss FM will be able to turn the tide somewhat as imo it was the reason that the local talent gathered the support that it did ‘back in tha day’. It was an outlet for people to hear non commercial music and it was also a place where many an ‘noob’ got their introduction to electronic music. Since 2001 there has been none of that, and the fact that more commercial streams of electronic music are so much more poplar these days in Melbourne (not to mention the demise of Melbourne as one of the pre-eminent techno centres I the world) are in direct correlation to this imo. This is because there has been nothing else for the younger punters to sink their teeth into without knowing a terrible lot about where to go out and who to see (whereas with Kiss all you had to do was tune in and you’d find out where to go and hear that great DJ you were hearing on the radio at that very point because he/she would tell you!).

So, support your local purveyors!

Well said Dean. It's all about education & proper networking - especially with the younger generation.
Too many sheep out there who just follow trends and don't know any better.

If the local lineup to support an International is good it makes the whole night and party so much better.

wouldn't this be an example of big support for a local djs at a particular night?

sure, i dont get to anywhere near the amount of nights you peoples do, but in my limited experience the locals seem to hold down the international(s) and shit all over them more often than not.

(they also seem to play better sets too)
