Very well???

Not according to the soldiers themselves now that they're back...

Iran's propaganda does work on some people I guess...

well wtf did you expect them to say? that we got treated like kings there?knowing full well that their own government hates that regime.
How do you know that the British government didnt force them to say those things?is that so hard to believe?is it so hard to beleive they want the world to always look at Iran as some fuckedup terrorist nation?

So personal stories (which are subject to many types of bias) are more accurate than video account. Someone already said that it could well be staged, but they look awfully relaxed to be being filmed at gun point. Seriously, a bit of critical thinking would be appreciated. Many things could be happening here and plenty more evidence is sure to come out on both sides. What if they truly were treated well? What then? Will you just deny it (as you're doing with the video evidence) and confirm your biases with some other information? You're as bad as any of the other fanatics on here, rooting blindly for the home team.

AGAIN

They are treated very well

watch video

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...5/wiran1205.xml

TWO main obvious dangerous points must be mentiond:

1.About the blindfolding ,it's a wellknown action before their
talks http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...d=1766&ito=1490

As u see the iranian protests had held these image

before the sailores were released from Iran.

Sailors' statement in full

Last Updated: 1:23am BST 06/04/2007

Here is the full statement made by the 15 service personnel held in Iran following their return to the UK:

"It goes without saying that we are extremely happy to be back in the UK and reunited with our loved ones.

"Touching down at Heathrow this morning was for all of us a dream come true and the welcome home that we have enjoyed today was one that none of us will ever forget.

"The past two weeks have been very difficult but by staying together as a team we kept our spirits up, drawing great comfort from the knowledge that our loved ones would be waiting for us on our return to the UK.

"It is only now that we have learned of the enormous public support we have all enjoyed in the UK and we wish to thank everyone for their thoughts, kind words and prayers. It means so much to us all.

"We all longed to be back with our loved ones and now that we are home we are all very much looking forward to spending some time with them."

"While we are extremely grateful for all the support we have had from the media, we would also ask that we have some space and privacy at this time."

The statement was followed by four quotes from some of the service personnel.

Lieutenant Felix Carman said: "On arrival at Royal Marines Barracks Chivenor, we were completely overwhelmed by the wave of good will we received.

"The support from the media, the Ministry of Defence and especially our families was incredible and we are just delighted to be back in the UK."

Operator Mechanic Arthur Batchelor said: "I am delighted to be back home and reunited with my sister and godmother.

"We started this thing together as a team and I am glad to have been reunited with our families as a team. I am looking forward to spending time with my family."

Operator Mechanic Nathan Summers said: "It is only now that we are home that we have found out just how much support we have had and we still have.

"It is a great relief to be back with friends and family."

Marine Adam Sperry said: "I am ecstatic to be back and can't wait to get home. I feel like I have a lot of people to see before I get back to my unit after leave.

"It is great to see all the positive support that we have had."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...tatement105.xml

2.They said'The past two weeks have been very difficult "but by staying together as a team we kept our spirits up", drawing great comfort from the knowledge that our loved ones would be waiting for us on our return to the UK'.

So wat's about"From there we were rushed into a room and then stuffed into a cell and didn't see another human being for six days." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...d=1766&ito=1490

These states indicate stories and events that can not be collected in time for one unit its so clear a great variation and contradiction
not a consensus saying.

Thank you.

I don't honestly believe either side 100%. Why do I need to be on one side or the other? Can't I formulate my own opinion based on the various pieces of information available?

Or is that kind of critical thinking not allowed in civilized western culture?

I think that (especially here in PDD on T/A) the apparent necessity to pick sides on any discussion seriously limits the scope of the discussion at hand. People get pissed off when they don't have any more to add and resort to personal attacks. It's not fucking useful in the least.

But hey, it seems to be the way things work, not just here, but between FoxNews, CNN and everything in between, including politics.

Well if i was selling my story to the highest bidder i would add some cheese & bacon to my story as well. honestly I dont blame them if they were to stretch the truth a lil bit for a couple hundred thousand more. I would prolly do the same thing if i were them.

Clueless, just clueless.
If they were to be treated well you wouldnt have seen the Iranian state TV constantly parade them around. You wouldnt be hearing Iranian officials constantly changing their stories, and even threatening to put them on trial.
Again, Iran simply gave ammo to terrorist lovers like some of those found right here on this forum so they could try to argue this absurd point. The point is Iran illegally seized them and took them hostage.

Yeah, probably not what you want to hear, but this thread has become ridiculously pointless, I think it needs to die.

Basically it's a "he said, she said," "would have, could have, might have" type of debate. No side will win the other over in this way and no side will be able to justify its position this way. It boils down to who you're more prone to believe or not believe. Because each side has reasons why they could or could not be telling the truth, there's nothing more to be said.

So, unless something new and ground breaking comes out from either side, believe what you'd like but realize that with this type of discussion the possibility of swaying the other side is nil.

The stances:

British prisoners treated well -
*The Iranians said so
*There are pictures and movies of the soldiers looking happy

British prisoners treated poorly -
*The soldiers said so

Well, no shit! When you are lobbied by the British tabloids who offer you hundreds of thousands of British pounds and who are hungry for the shocking stories, you'd know what they want to hear. They dont want to hear how nice, friendly and co-operative Iranians were. That doesnt sell stories in UK. Its embarassing for British military to allow these marines to publicly make money while other soldiers died in Iraq and received no such coverage or money. Read the article in the other Iranian thread of the heavy criticism these marines and the military received from British mmothers who lost their sons and daughters inn Iraq. An insult to them. And British government and military couldn't be happier to let the exagerrated story to be aired by the tabloids, just like the terrible twists and lies with the famous tabloid stories about Princess Diana's butler.

Well, to be fair the Iranians went out of their way to try to score a political victory on their television ... that was dumb. But now the British marines, instead of being reprimanded by their military, are blatantly ENCOURAGED to sell their stories. Whats the difference? Both are blatant political campaigns.
