I have a very subtle southern accent. A mixture of Kentucky english, and South Florida english. Generally though, I just speak normally. My english isn't heavily accented one way or the other.

The classic North of Ireland accent for me, not quite as fucked up as Nadine's, but will take this opportunity to post our local beauty :

I have no idea these days. A few years ago when I was living in the US, people said I didn't have a strong NY accent, although Zewad says differently.

Now, I hear all sorts of things.

Is that a North American accent I hear in the background?
Are you Canadian?
You've lived here (Australia) a long time, haven't you? Your American accent is barely there.
You don't sound American (meaning no southern accent).

My husband gets asked sometimes if he is American. He has never lived in the US. Someone told him he had an Atlantic accent, whatever that means.

The list is endless. What is interesting is I am an ESL teacher and all these comments are from linguists.

While I agree, my NY accent has become standardised, I definitely do not sound Australian.

When people say "mid-Atlantic" accent, it means a person basically has an accent of indistinguishable origin, which could be from any number of countries. People who move around a lot or learn English as a second language in two different countries usually develop it. It's like saying someone is "Eurasian looking" - a mixture, basically.

Sorry I should rephrase what I wrote above. I just don't understand how someone could say he has an Atlantic accent, when he has never lived there and has only visited a few times; it isn't that I don't understand what Atlantic accent means. It was poorly worded, sorry.

Post your voices! Unless you sound like PKC, you should have nothing to worry about.

weird english with american slang and a deep spanish voice, there is character in the tone and redundance in its sound.

The scientist cannot capture the whole cosmos in thought. In his mind he makes a kind of microcosm, which we see as an analogue of the cosmos. In this way we try to get a feeling for the whole. The artist, I suppose, gets a feeling for the whole some other way.â€
