Buy a bike. My orthopaedist suggested the same to me (my right foot hurts for some bizarre reason).

I do a bunch through the boxing gym I go to. Its good stuff if you have some fitness to begin with. For a couch potato looking at jumping into a routine, it can be very demoralizing and a little unsafe in my opinion.

Its rigorous, tough and very goal oriented.

Ive been at it for about 4 months now, and ive seen some huge results.

I dont think id like to do it exclusively, but it complements the other sports I do.

Worth trying at least

i was doing some lifting and cardio at the y but it's not a great gym and i'm looking for something a little more focused. i contacted one of the 2 crossfit gyms here to see if i can bring my son but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Maybe i'm better off going to the one where i know the owner..

I renewed my gym membership...wasn't motivated enough at home anymore. It's been awesome - I get so much more done in an hour at the gym than I did at home.

Home workouts are sooooo boring.

I've been doing them since the new year, and I finally caved in a couple days ago and got a gym membership that starts tomorrow.

I wish I could work out at home. The gym closes before I reach my daily (nightly, actually) peak, around 12AM/1AM.

My job has this fitness challenge thing going on, and they made me the "captain" of it for the store I work at....a job thats supposed to go to a manager, which I am not. So I've been working out more to try and win some prizes. If the store group gets a high enough score, the store gets some kind of prize.

This is not the first time manager work has been pawned off onto me because one of the managers, the one who should be in charge of this thing, is incompetent and lazy.

I was thinking about your situation as I was running today, and I can't believe I didn't suggest this earlier to you...

It's true, if you start running more than what your body is accustomed to, definitely pain will ensue (i.e. shin splints, or in your case knee issues).

One practical way to try and address this is to refine your training approach to running. For instance, rather than set a goal to run 3 miles, you might consider trying to use a run/walk training approach. So, you might consider running for as little as 30-90 seconds, and then walking for 1-2 minutes, and continue to do this interval training for a total of 25-30 minutes. The goal here is to gradually get your body acclimated to the constant pounding that running puts on your joints.

See link for better explanation...

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I understand a 5k might not be your goal, but the training methods are still worth noting. It's all about "easing into it" rather than trying to go full tilt right off the bat.

Damn, if it's not one thing, it's another. Lately my wrist has been hurting when I do pushups. That means no yoga for me.

I feel like strengthening it would be good but by the same token it hurts quite a bit when I do pushups and asanas. All the pressure on it hurts like crazy. I guess I'll just be doing anything that doesn't involve a pushup for a while.
