hah yeah anything's possible
back in high school i had a paper on a book, summary plus in depth analysis, book was probably 800 pages or so. at 10pm the night before it was due (class at 7:45am) i still hadn't opened the book, and there were no cliffnotes or anything available, nothing on the web. through careful but quick skimming and bullshit, i was still able to get a couple hours of sleep, and got a b+ on it

All the papers I've written in the last year have I done within the last 24 hours of the deadline. I've gotten the highest grade on each one except one. I guess I write good under stress.

i generally work better under some sort of pressure. if there is no pressure i procrastinate till there is pressure. then i get it done.

me too! I can't believe it... I was such a diligent, organized student all my university life... now in the last year before grad, I find that I am not taking anything seriously... my brain just doesn't get the signal that I should be doing the essay at the moment - I've pulled 12 all-nighters this school year

Just like you though - this has been some of my best work.
I think when you're really tired/stressed, your brain does one of two things while writing an essay
a) REALLY focuses on the basics of the topic (i.e. thesis) - I find that I read it over a few times when my brain is in this state and it just never leaves me - this makes my essay unified and coherent
b) your creative juices really flow - you say things in weird ways but if you have excellent writing skills then it works - your brain is just experimenting with syntax
