Amazing how many people can state their opinion as fact, then get pissed when people call them on it (usually with their own opinion, stated as a fact).

Hence, music for the masses. Now what particulary sickens me about this is in the past I have seen Armin play sets like this for example:

46. V-One - Dead Cities (Force Mass Motion Remix)
47. Silvio Ecomo - No Dip (Mac Zimms Remix)
48. DHS - House Of God (Azzido Da Bass Remix)
49. underworld - Born Slippy (Original Mix)
50. Marco V - Milla
51. D-Factor - The Wrong Shake (Jamie Anderson Remix)
52. Umek - Gatex (Armin Van Buuren Remix)
53. Taiko - Silence (The Joker Remix)

This to me is shit hot. There is thought put into that little segment of his set, and it's pleasing to hear. I refuse to believe that his shift in playlist has been due to anything other than trying to please the masses and become popular. That is a shit attitude to me.
agreed, everything armin have done recently is shite.. he makes bad music, he plays bad music.. and he is getting MORE popular.. Armin van Buuren, WAS my favorite DJ, CAUSE.. he made 5 compilations that were outstandingly great..

Boundaries Of Imagination
Armin van Buuren 001 - State Of Trance
Armin van Buuren 002 - Basic Instinct
Armin van Buuren 003 - In Motion
Armin van Buuren 004 - Transparance

those compilations are one of the best ever, atleast one of the 2 CDs on those were AWESOME...

then he made Universal Religion, were he started to use Envio, Filo & Peri etc. on his compilations.. and he was well whoring out ASOT at that moment.. he went to be the best, to go to on to be the worst and commercial crap or whatever.. and its getting increasingly popular by the new breed, while the good old people are starting to spill their guts..

Alot of people have a lot of interesting points about Andy Moor and Armin Incl. (I hate to say it ) DjMikeyMike. Let me start off by saying that Andy Moor is not nearly as good of a producer as he used to be...but that's the case with most trance/house producers these days.

Just think of Armins's Asot and Markus Schultz Global dj broadcast as being the "TRL" of the EDM community. Don't try to talk shit about them just because you disapprove of their track selections, they play 15 to 20 tracks on average per set to give listeners (fans or not) a chance to hear new tracks before its released..Think of it as a "Blessing" to the EDM community. Most of the shit on Mtv is also trash, yet they're ratings are huge because of mass appeal. Just because you don't like the track selection doesn't mean the next person won't, Thats why Armin is still around and is still considered/recognized as one of the top djs in the world and clubs still love to book him.

I guess the "Haters" will always stay on their job even though they know they couldn't budge someone as huge as Armin Van Buuren. Armin and Markus introduced a lot of new producers with talent like Mike Foyle, Hydroid, Elevation, etc. So all you small time producers *cough* DjMikeyMike *cough* and many others, keep on hating. Your not going to stop these very popular Djs doing what they keep doing. Now thats a FACT..Live with it.

i think a musical background is crucial if u wana be a good producer. unless u produce techno, then it doesnt really matter!

that is bullshit. saying that trance needs a musical background and techno doesnt is the biggest bullshit Ive read in a while.
I bet alot of the melodic producers aired on ASOT never had a musical background. I know two myself (not gonna name them though).

Just because you dont like techno doesnt mean that its easy to produce. Techno is based on loads of rythms and loops which needs to suit perfectly for the dancefloor. And since techno is repetetive it takes lots of skills to make a track which doesnt get boring after a while.
Just look at Mauro Picottos techno tracks for example.
You can clearly hear that the effort he put behind his techno tunes is much bigger than his more commercial tracks. For his melodic tunes like Komodo and Proximus he just sampled some old catchy lyrics and inserted a cheesy melody to please all epic jerks and that was it.

Yes I agree that it doesnt take skills to become a DJ. There are Djs out there who cant even beatmatch (Tiestor, DJ Jean etc) but still are seen as Gods. This is totally unbelievable.
But then we have the really skilled djs which actually knows how to act like a true star behind the decks (Eddie Halliwell, J00F etc) who just doesnt play one track after the other one but actually build up their sets, reads the audience and creates a special mood depending on the crowd. This is easily seen in most J00f sets. He starts out playing deep progressive, going on to some melodic stuff and then ending with banging full on psytrance.

But many of the ASOT "uprising" djs I mentioned totally copies their idols (Tiestor, Armin, Schulz etc) and plays almost the same tunes. What kind of skills does that take?

Trance buisness is becoming a fuckin joke.

oh finally. For you who just discovered Armin I strongly advice you to check out Armins 004 Transparance. A better mixed cd and a better track selection is hard to come by. That in my opinion is Armin at his best. And it makes his compilations and mixes of today looks like goat poo.

he didnt say that techno doesnt need skills... he said it doesnt need music theory backround... why? cuz its not really melodic and as you said it depends on the rythme... melodic music needs music theory. ever wonderd why drumers dont know shit about theory??? same about techno producers.

Ronski 1 - Mikey 0

btw, good post about AVB/ASOT mikey. i agree with it.

however like it (believe it) or not the big guys are in the business of making money (and a living). to those who have been around a while, you'll notice the change in style, playlists, etc. but give credit to where credit is due - the tiest0rs, oakenfolds, pvds and armins (even MOS and GKs) of the world have brought trance to the masses.

i for one am happy to be able to walk into a general music store in the local mall and find the likes of nu-nrg, magik, tranceport and other quality trance albums there.

yes the ol'skool peepz can bitch about wishing the music had stayed underground and all that, but what's done is done.

i guess we're harsher on the producers of today because it's really in their hands how the music of tomorrow is shaped, and uninspired repetitive (ASOT) productions and dj sets doesn't help. Nor does remixing classics. there are some quality productions out there, but man some stuff sucks the wang like tiest0r sucked mickeymouse.

dj sammy for the win!

anyways, air for life = (imo)
