Thank you for at least trying! I think we might as well just email Paul or his public relations manager to be honest.

Oakenfold has been asked many times. He has no clue what the track was and he has so many records it would be impossible for him to find it.

That sucks. I'm sure that DJ Shadow and his crate digging friends would have remembered after listening to it.

As musically astute as Oakey seems to be, you would think that he would be able to remember one of his career highlight sets.

its not realistic to think oakie would remember a tune he played once in a career where he plays night after night for 13 years

So I guess I just overestimated his knowledge and ability as a musician.

As I was saying, DJ Shadow has one of the largest record collections in the world (It easily puts Oakey's to shame)

On the flip side, who's to say that there isn't an art in finding and being able to access many samples from many records, knowing which will work with each other. In my opinion, the art of sampling can be considered a fine art in some cases, such as DJ Shadow. DJ Shadow is known for his elaborate record collection and knowledge of each record. He can orchestrate things with his records that would just blow you away. He knows instrumentals, where to loop them, where a drum break that will fit a track exists, what narration and samples will fit on that track. (...).

If Oakey knew enough about that vinyl to properly program it into his Rojam set then I would think that he would be able to remember it if he heard it. I mean, it was an entire track, not just the sound bits from it - something that DJ Shadow is known for remembering.

Perhaps I just have lofty expectations. Oh well.

Dance DJ's get hundreds of records a month from labels, individuals, etc... so they really go through alot of records and dont know whats what with some of them.

Actually, you're mistaken in thinking that he's just a scratch DJ. He often transcends musical boundaries and has produced Electronica, Downtempo, and Breaks as well as Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop.

Dude, if I was just looking for a fight I would make an effort to find a more knowledgable adversary. This is a discussion, verging on debate.

Do you actually know what genres or what records his collection is even comprised of? You're making statements based on assumptions. His productions are created by taking samples from a diverse vinyl collection - he doesn't sample CD's, only vinyl.

You don't even really seem to know what DJ Shadow is about - but since he is highly adept at turntablism you think that you know what he has in his record collection? Come on.

I've been told by a few reliable sources that he has nearly as many electronica (Trance, House, Breaks, etc) vinyls as Oakey. You just have to consider that his entire collection is probably more than five times the size of Oakey's to begin with.

What I'm trying to prove is that if Oakey really had a serious love for his music he would remember what that track was in his Rojam set. It was one of the major highlights of his Essential Mix world tour and he doesn't remember it? I'm sorry but I don't buy that.

Take all the drugs away from Oakey, then force him to remember the song name

Yeah maybe; more importantly, if Oakey had a serious love for his greatest of fans, then he would find it for us. Of course, not knowing what that track is keeps this thread and the interest alive.

I have spoken to the guy who made 'Lex - Vertical Horizon' and he said that he hasn't got any copies of this, because it was never finished. He also promised to send me some of his other work and never bothered. He ran a label called Hard Discs, which released a Planet Heaven tune.
