Yeah I knew about this, but for me, it isn't the slang. It just blows for people that prefer to actually type. Especially ones that type fast such as myself. I changed to the default Android keyboard and things improved greatly.

Picked up the Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile, yesterday. This is my first Smart Phone, but wanted to get into one that had good reviews and some future proofing. I'm looking forward to the Android 2.2 upgrade that's slated to be coming in September.

Battery life is the only real gripe I have with it, it's not horrible, but it's definitely not great, either. I'm not having the issues some users are describing when it comes to battery life, so I don't think I'll return it, but I'm patiently awaiting a higher MAh battery to come out for it.

That is my only complaint, too. I have been using it as an mp3 player today, and the damn thing is pretty low right now. It is already telling me to charge my phone.

The FLAC playback is flawless though. Absolutely LOVE this feature.

Oh and rooting the phone is super easy. Will be loading CyanogenMod on it as soon as it is available.

for the samsung guys, have you tried Swiftkey?? It's in the market, pretty sweet keyboard, it actually scans your msgs for words, adds them to your dictionary and recomends what you would say next after entering a word: You can pretty much type a whole message only typing the first word (if you send similar messages all the time )

Ben, if I'm a linux noob (especially with command-line), is rooting my phone worth my time? I understand after you do it, it gives you administrative access to everything on the phone, but I also don't want to void my warranty either (I'm not sure if this is a warranty voiding move?).

What do you think? Worth it, if I'm just getting my feet wet in this fandangled app world? Or just play in the shallow end of the pool for the time being? I have no problem admitting I may be in a little over my head with what this phone is capable of doing.

You haven't a reason to even need to bother with the command line on the phone for the most part. There are graphical solutions for pretty much everything I have seen.

The whole warranty voiding is a crock of shit. There are a bunch of places online that tell you how to remove root (it is pretty much just delete 3 files and reboot) and once you do that, it is reverted back. I used root though to delete some things like Slacker Radio, GoGo in flight internet, TeleNav, and one other thing I can't remember.

When you say that the warranty voiding is a crock, do you just mean that you're apposed to companies voiding warranties for it? Or, do you mean that they don't void warranties at all for it? Just trying to understand, before I make any decision on the matter.

Besides removing apps, does it really give me any true advantages over what I already have access wise with my phone? I don't really mind waiting for the official release of Froyo, so if an early OS update is the only really good selling point to rooting the phone, I think I may just hold off. Just afraid of bricking the phone...

Obviously, I can google for this, which I have, but I'm just trying to get an end-users opinions to my questions directly, if you don't mind.

You won't brick the phone. There are advantages other than that. Some apps require root to be able to be used. It just makes it easier if you root it, because you never have to worry if the app requires root or not.

Hey Ben I'm interested in what's mediocre on the iPhone? I've been using different android phones like desire and I don't see much difference at all. Droid got widgets but I like app store better. iPhone 4 got better screen IMO and slighty better smoothness overall in animations with no slowdowns that I notice in eg desire. You can root the android which is awesome but there is jailbreak. But I don't like to pirate software anymore since I got the money to pay. But it's not about pirate software I know. I'm just curious. I'm no fanboi in any direction since I got apple products but still love win 7 etc and use Linux as well.
