I suppose a gooseneck would be convenient but it does not have to be. The synth provide phantom power.

The small JD Xi version comes with it's own MIC, but Roland said that MIC did not work well with the bigger synth.

A mate recommends Audio Technica but their £100 ish MIC says it's aimed at stage users, so I'm not too sure of it.

BTW I've spent a good few hours making some lush plucks in case anyone wants the soundbank for them, but I've not yet used them in any productions. They truly are lovely though, just make me want to sit and play all night long without opening the DAW.

Just get anything if it's just for vocoding use. A Behringer XM8500 for example. I have one and it's great. About £20 too.

Took your 'just anything' advice and ordered a £26 Roland gooseneck direct from them which they tell me is long enough.

This was my concern but who am I to doubt the 'technical' guy at Roland. He even threw in free delivery, which was sweet of the dear.

I know you adjust bought the Roland but just in case (and if anyone else needs) a really great mic for under a ton is the Audio Technical At2020. I've produced countless hours of radio interviews with them age they're really great little mics and can be used for both vox and strung instruments, even as overheads or rooms.

The Roland gooseneck is ultra quiet for vocoder work, useless. They sent me a discontinued headset mic which is much better.

Here's my analog noodling on it today, I do think this thing has a sound.

Excuse the hand noodling, and fumble fingering

wow very nice. i haven't had the chance to use a jd-xa or jd-xi and demos on youtube were interesting but that's about it cuz none of them demo'ed anything i'd listen to. your soundcloud demo though... is amazing. great work, man you really made the jd-xa shine. the sound and effects you demonstrated are phenomenal.

Cheers I'm surprised you like it as I just slapped it down all fumbly fingered

QUESTION

Ive redone a track with a nice analogue bass but I cant get Cypher (dcam synth in effect mode as an insert), to remain on. I have the keys to HOLD but of course when I export the track the Cypher forgets it's been keyed. Im at a loss.

Im making this track with only the Roland JD XA. I put it up as I've had good feedback about the demos for this.

It's a bit compressed, I'll ease off on this shortly so as the synths can breath

The drums I programmed in Xfer Nerve.

So, it's 2017 and the analog obsession is finally gone, right?!

Lol, it's probably worse than ever. The best bit is you've now got kids who truly don't know the difference (on a multitude of levels) trying to lecture about the wonders of analogue, something that was reserved for cantankerous farts on GS.

A teacer back in Audio Engineering school said to me (and bear in mind this was 15 years ago) , that everything goes in cycles. Then, he was seeing things from the 70's and 80's being recycled, so does that now mean we're recycling the recycled stuff
