Can someone clarify something for me? I thought I heard it reported that the UN action forbids foreign occupying ground troops, but that mercenaries were acceptable. Is this true or did I hear wrong?

W... wh... wha... what!? Did you already forget about the 2009 uprising in Iran against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Already filtered out of your memory? About 150 protesters were gunned down... including the woman Neda who ended up being the face of the uprising, which was captured on video. Look it up for yourself. Does this ring a bell??

"Police and the Basij, a paramilitary group suppressed both peaceful demonstrating and rioting using batons, pepper spray, sticks and, in some cases, firearms. The Iranian government has confirmed the deaths of 36 people during the protests,[33] while unconfirmed reports by supporters of Mousavi allege that there have been 72 deaths (twice as many) in the three months following the disputed election."

Stop making up numbers. You think 72 people being killed over the span of 3 months warrants a US attack on Iran? Gaddafi has killed thousands (so far) and has basically stated his intent to murder further mass amounts of civilians. You can't even begin to compare the two.

Ahh yes, Wiki. The most rock solid source of information.

In the protests to this sham of an "election", over 150 people died. But the riots were pivotal in exposing the power of social media when a video of Neda Agha-Soltan being shot and killed by local police circulated all over the Internet (video embedded in this item.) It has been widely chronicled as "probably the most widely witnessed death in human history".

Did I fucking say it warranted a US attack, Strawmi McStrawmanson? NO. You're the one who said in reference to Iran "People aren't rebelling against a dictator, and they're not being responded to with force."

I point out the obviousness of your ill informed comment, and you try to change the argument with, "Stop changing the numbers, it's 72 people not 150 that were murdered by force I said didn't happen during a rebellion against a dictator I said didn't exist!" You make it too easy for me man.

At least wikipedia has sources. The link you posted has no sources whatsoever. Very credible I must say.

You obviously don't have much familiarity with the Iranian government either if you think that it is a dictatorship. If the Iranian government wanted to get rid of Ahmadinejad, they could. The Tehran police is under the supervision of the Ayatollah, not the President.

You're conveniently leaving out the fact that that happened over a year ago

It doesn't count unless the rebellion is in real time?

I was talking about right now. People were saying "we should be attacking Iran instead" which makes the timeframe in which the rebellion occurred pretty important. Keep in mind that this situation in Libya is coming at a time where the desire for democratic government is spreading across the Middle East. The timing is pretty important.

"In April 2007, the Tehran police, which is under Khamenei's supervision, began a crackdown on women with "improper hijab." This led to criticism from associates of Ahmadinejad.[88]"

Another article about the "Tehran Police." :
