Whistler has a major major problem which we learned when we got there 2 years ago.
It is too low. The peak is only at 6500 feet and the base is around 1000. Most places in the rockies start around 5000-7000 feet.
The reason this is an issue is when you get a sudden warm spell right aroudn freezing, as we did. It rained pretty much all week giving us nothing to ski on the lower 2/3rds of the mountain and a lot of heavy wet powder up top. My roomate went up one morning by himself and it was pouring rain at the peak. This was the second week of January too, not late season or anything.
Whistler village was pretty cool though.
I need to get in shape and get back into skiing. I was a pretty damn good skiier when I was 7, but moving away from mountains meant I did not ski for close to 15 years.

yeah, true about whistler but skiing in the rain makes you a better skier, just ski for a few years on the east coast through ice, rain, sleet, and slush I love the rockies resorts as well. Vail, Aspen, Crested Butte, Snowmass, Deer Valley, Purg, Jackson Hole, Steamboat, etc... so many great places to get down in a hurry

You want "quality" skiing, try how my old roomate learned to ski. In Illinois, where the hilltop is at 640 feet above sea level and you START at the TOP.
It is almost always ice too.
God I hate skiing in the midwest....the only remotely decent places are in northern Michigan but you need to go in a year/time when they have a good natural snowfall.
MrS (needs to move out west baaaaaad)
