Unlimited eggs, full-fat cheese, burgers, bacon, fresh salads with olive oil & vinegar..fresh green veggies...almonds, macadamia nuts.. That's about it. I eat tons of fatty (and delicious) stuff, and as long as I don't go over 20 carbs in a day the weight keeps shedding. Pwnage.

The problem I have with the atkins diet is that you need complex carbs to help transfer proteins to the muscle - amino acids. Also, unused protein also stores as fat when it's not burned as energy. What the atkins is doing is making you burn protein as a source of energy versus the normal carbs.

A better "dieting" plan is the Zone Diet. It incorporates the food groups and allows you to eat within those groups just by portion control. Also encourages you to eat upwards to 5-6 per day, just the discretion focuses on portion control. Size of your fist is a good measure for this.

Do you prefer running more scenic ie. through parks etc or through city streets?

The parks here are paved roads, I don't like trail running as much for endurance purposes since I'm more prone to turning an ankle. I do trail run riverside park (hudson park) in manhattan but to focus on strength gains like sprints and uphill runs. I don't mind running city streets but if I were to navigate city streets it would be on my bike I like the parks more, it's nice run next to a group of girls adorned in lululemon or nike fit ;p

yesterday i ended up running about 4.5 miles in 36:27. it SUCKED. the heat was getting to me, and i was feeling more sluggish than a buddy who ran the half marathon the day before. i think part of it is running on the bridle path - the dirt makes you work harder compared to pavement. will be running with the nike runnyc group again later today.

lol push? i was dying yesterday! this morning was a bit better, i did notice though after a 2 day break, the first day back is always ROUGH. This morning I was fine, I nailed 2m in 17.45 which was pretty good, the last 1.5 I just cruised it as I navigated some of the hills along riverside drive.

I have to say this, I LOVE CENTRAL PARK AND RIVERSIDE PARK!
Run The Park Bitches!!!!

Atkins relies on the body entering a state of ketosis in order to burn fat. When your body enters that state, it's primary source of energy is fat. That's one reason why carbs are so limited on that diet. Your body always wants to use carbs as energy and the introduction of too many carbs while your body is in ketosis will cause it to revert to a normal state.

Burning protein as energy typically depends on your o2/co2 ratio, which is why cardio is typically centered around a target heart rate, to control that ratio and assure that your body is burning fat. You really have to be either a) taxing your body extremely hard in order to burn protein or b) limiting your calories to such an extent that your body will start to eat itself for energy.

Having said all that, I still maintain that no one should ever 'diet'. Your diet should be consistent for the rest of your life and it's about maintaining a proper balance. The Zone Diet sounds like it's along those lines and that's a good thing. The bad thing is when people say "I'm going to do the Zone Diet for a month and lost 10 pounds and then go back to my evil ways." lol

Ok, end rant.

usually i feel the reverse and i feel fresher after a day or two off. and agreed on central park. however, i've avoided the upper loops for years. i hate the hills on the road up there.

i'm almost tempted to run in van cortlandt park some time soon - i feel like going back to the old cross country course and getting my ass kicked by the back hills. and maybe cemetery hill if i feel suicidal.

u have some reading to do, as you have no idea whats going on while on it. Its all about glucagon and ketones mate. Also the word "diet" is used, however, its not necessarily a diet. Atkins/Keto is not based on burning protein, its based on fat! 75% fat, 25% protein is your macro intake so there's no need to worry about protein turning to fat! As far as meal frequency, u are supposed to eat 4-6 meals a day just like any other so called "diet" or program.

Whatever the case is I still don't support the atkins diet at all. Maybe it's the side of me that requires balance (in all aspects of life and at any extremes) but to me, maintaining a high protein high fatty diet just doesn't do it for me. I enjoy my brown rice, my beans, my multigrain toast. I don't necessarily enjoy "fatty foods" all the time, it's not delicious to me if you eat it constantly. I just need that balance, sweet and sour, salty and bland, its all about balance man.

I think I've done sufficient reading, enough for me to know that I don't participate in said diet (even if I'm conceptually wrong about it) because of the balance requirement in my life. I just can't see myself living such a lifestyle according the atkins regiment.

It may work for some, maybe it's a short term thing, I really don't know. I just feel that in a lot of ways, it's unhealthy for you. It's like those people who skip meals because they are dieting and think that's the way to lose weight quickly.

Also another note from my experience and interaction with some ladies, those who I've witness to choose the no-eating dieting are often frail yet limber and those who follow the atkins (or similar) are a tad overweight and are looking to melt down the hips, arm fat, or simply lower their BMI. I've found the body type preference for me is athletic and tone, neither skinny and frail, nor extra padding, and those with the athletic tone have a healthy amount of fat on them and eat on a similar schedule as I do. A balance of all food groups. Again just my observation.

I agree, dieting is stupid and unhealthy. How fucking hard is it to just eat proper, well balanced meals? That's right: it isn't.

i'm with you on that but if you are really poor it is extremely difficult because cheap food is unhealthy.

Okay, time for another 6 motha-fucking mile run tonight, I'm pumped as it's relatively dry ground, cool and spitting rain, perfect for outdoor running/training

I'm aiming for a steady 40 minutes if possible here.
