If you don't see that that matters, you're missing the essence of Islam.
I'm not the best Muslim in the world. I could definitely be more patient, more generous, and more kind to others. I could be less sexually devient okay, I'll stop there...
But relatively speaking, when you try to compare the religion of Islam and connect the Quran (with it's passages taken out of context) to terrorism, I have to step up and represent--even if I'm representing an ideal that even I can't achieve.
Anyway, you're on the right track by describing Christians vs. gays--the minority believing in those passages doesn't make the whole Bible a categorically "bad" book, which is what you make the Quran sound like.
