And what's with the n00bs still arguing about the ref... he was right on all the red cards and that offside ruling in USA's 2nd goal, My God seriously, have you guys played football at all before, do you really know your football??
I'm beginning to understand those who aren't posting in this WC forum... |
Ok I wanna address the issue of the refs at the US vs Italy game without the
1) "OMG IM a professional football fan, let us the real fans decide if its a good call....All of you soccer newbs dont know anything" mentality.
and
2) "US is got screwed, i hate the refs" mentality.
First and foremost, In my opinion both straight red cards were correct and the offside goal was a good call. The questionable yellowcards to pope might have been a little excessive. The main reason the officiating has been questioned is not so much the red cards passed out during the game but rather the tempo lost in the game because of the rigid officiating. The Italians, if you have watched football before, have attained the image of being divers. The Italians are masters at the dive which by the way is a sport that belongs in the olympics. Being fair the The yellow card on Totti was a joke too. But what was unfortunate was the contact which initiated wwe style flopping left and right. It was almost as if they hit a landmine when the italian squad was in contact with the us players. The stretchers were brought onto the field about 5+ times in this game and one particular instance showed one Italian that wasn't carted off the field on a stretcher yelling in pain as if he had both legs broken and was about to die of intense pain. Seconds later he would come back into the field after the trainer would fog his leg with ice spray, running like a healthy cheetah. Now with that said, i want to reinterate that i agree with the red cards, however if the game was going to be called so rigidly down the line then they should have been more rigid on flopping. Now if you believe all the calls were called according to the books then you would agree they weren't so strict on diving. FIFA has been trying to crack down on simulation and this game should of been the one that would of enforced this if it was being officiated in this manner. With that said, the game should have ended with 4-5 players on the field. Regardless the result, it was a memorable game even if the Italian Press called their team a "Italy of Madmen" and even if US soccer fan thinks Bruce Arena needs to be fired as soon as possible. Everyone needs to take it easy bashing each other over who knows more about soccer and what not. Its pretty immature, enjoy the games! I know I AM
