Meh. I don't think that guns are the sole cause of incidents such as these, however, given that the American people are a very agressive kind (speaking in a general sense... and hey, a lot of studies suggest this), it is probably not a wise idea to be handing over to them one of the easiest tools used to kill another individual.
Perhaps constricting gun access wouldn't solve the problem entirely, but I am willing to bet a lot of money that without these weapons, not as many homicides would occur. Stabbing someone with a knife, or beating someone up etc. etc. is a lot more effort, and takes a lot more courage, and a lot more time than to point and shoot.
However, I agree with whomever said that at this point... even if guns were really restricted now, it would be years before there would be an actual change given that the population is already saturated with guns anyway.
