You're right though, EVERYONE is Bayern supporter in Germany it seems. Except in Dortmund lol.

Apparently St. Pauli have a massive German following as well - which is astounding for a club that's a permanent fixture in Bundesliga 2 and lower...

Of course they are a well run club,

But they are 100 % a douche club like the Yankees with all of the talent they poach off everyone else.

I think it's more of a case of the talent wanting to play for a club who has a winning record and not the other way around. Big players want to play for clubs that win. Dortmund has been a bit of an exception to that rule due to their fantastic youth system and amazing coach.

You should be directing your hate towards clubs that haven't held a winning tradition until they got a big cash injection. Bayern have always been a winning team. Man City and Chelsea come to mind as teams that were bought, not earned on tradition.

Based upon that however, who is your team? If you say someone like Man City or Chelsea I'm going to have a proper chuckle.

Yeah St. Pauli are a fantastic little "kult" club as well, they also have a great youth system and are very active in their community. Lots of respect for clubs like that. Union are similar.

The whole Bayern thing is pretty interesting. A while back they were pretty good with bringing through talent from their academy quite consistently, that's certainly tailed off in recent years though and they seem happy to just buy now. Thing is though, the players want to go to Munich. They have a winning culture and regardless of where you are in Germany, or who you support locally, it's almost as if Bayern are Germany's club. They certainly 'poach' players, but everyone seems to follow them and expects them to do well, it's like they're the national representation of Deutsche football (on a club level anyways). Can't say I mind them really, although I have a lot more respect for a team like Dortmund who bring through talent themselves regularly and operate on a more modest budget.

I would argue that guys like Ballack, Ze Roberto, Klose, Gomez, Neuer, Dante, Gotze and most likely Lewandowski leaving for Bayern (remember these guys left champions league playing, top of the table caliber clubs) has just as much, if not more to do with Bayern being able to offer a fatter cheque then anyone else in Germany. I won't even bother mentioning the guys they get off of other lower - mid table sides. That is what Bayern does, they will poach anyone from everyone in Germany and that's why I say they are the easiest team to cheer for and I am right.

And I do direct hate towards Chelsea, Shit-eh. Can't stand these nouveau riche clubs that just come in and buy everyone up with the backing of some tycoon.

I will always root for the underdog to win unless there is a player I like playing for the big clubs. And I will def give more respect and credit to teams that go about their business with youth development and don't just buy up anyone and everyone.

Who do I TRULY support? Little minnow Eastern European sides where I have geographic / family connections with. I watch & follow the big leagues but don't consider myself a true supporter of any team playing in those leagues.

The thing I love about Bayern, and the Bundesliga in general is that there aren't really any tycoons propping up clubs. Most clubs have some form of community ownership. The league is very domestic and doesn't rely too much on foreign players to fill out rosters. Bayern are 100% community owned - and the only reason they have money is because of the winning culture they've always had. Players want to play in that environment - plus Munich and Bavaria in general is fucking beautiful!

Also, tickets to see a Bayern game are very reasonable. They've gone on record to state that they don't see a reason to charge huge numbers for tickets because watching football shouldn't be for the rich.

I think Special K is sort of missing the point here. Bayern are the team to beat because they've always been the team to beat. They run a great team. This isn't the Premiership or the Russian League. Bayern are big because they hold a huge amount of support from within and outside of the country.

Also, when the club has a large chunk of the Die Mannschaft as their roster, they're doing something right.

Yeah that's one of the things that sets the German league apart imo, no complete private ownership and usually majority shares made exclusive to supporters. It's a respect thing, and the clubs get that their fans make them what they are. It's not exclusively about the 'business' and turning a profit like it is in some leagues. Union are the same, owned by the supporters and you get to vote on everything, even the concession items. A few years ago we needed to renovate the ground and didn't have the cash to hire a private firm, so over the course of the summer hundreds of supporters turned up everyday and did the work themselves. You can't buy that commitment. You're right about the ticket prices as well, a Borussia supporters terrace ticket runs you about €10, and you can get Bayern season tickets for as little as €110 I believe. For a 'premium' match in England you're looking at £40 for an upper tier seat. It's madness.

Regarding Bayern, you're both right and have valid points imo. They certainly 'poach', and other teams would have to break the bank just to match the offers Bayern can throw out without hesitation. The thing is though, it's not the same as what City and Chelsea have been doing. Bayern have been at this a long time, and they have the trophy cabinet to back them up. I don't personally agree with much of it, but you have to respect them. Nobody forces anyone to go to Munich, they do so willingly. Coincidentally, it's also the place where a lot of quality players struggle and are shipped out just as quick as they're brought in.

That first one (bicycle) does nothing for me...

The second though, what a beauty. Sweetly hit half volley on the first touch, love it.

The first shot is nice, but the second one is a rocket and caught the keeper flat-footed. Being able to strike from that distance, that hard is absolutely nuts!

I had a nice little goal on Monday night that I was waiting for the 'fans' to start singing 'Sign him up, sign him up!', but it never came.
