While those of us who still listen to it appreciate other forums of music and respect that people have different opinions and tastes, you fall into the category of those people who seem to think that what they moved onto is now the uber musical genre. No doubt that when you move on from your minimal and electro of today to something else, you will probably just bag it out and say how 2005 minimal was SOOOO much better and more intelligent than 2010 minimal.

It's like a fucking regurgitated discussion on every EDM forum. Congratulations, you've turned this into another bullshit TA "Trance is dead" thread which is clearly not true.

Get some sense into you and learn to respect other people's tastes as tehre are many variables as to why people like a specific genre. It's not even about when it was produced but also about when someone started listening to it.

As someone that got into it in "the golden years" and still love it, I can tell you that melodic trance is better than it was then. Yes that's right, better

Now, the artists that you mentioned and the music they play, I think they are rather boring and very formulaic. Does that mean that what I listen to is more intelligent and superior? No, it just means that we have different tastes.

Pull the fucking jaded stick out of your ass and admit that you've moved on and your tastes have changed. Don't sit there at your pc slagging off trance because it doesn't appeal to you anymore and get all pissy about people congratulating their friend. You may not think it but getting a play on ASOT is a big achievement and he did it twice.

If you think that anyone can knock up something on FL that you've clearly never touched a sequencer in your life. Have a go and show me what you can do. If trance is so formulaic and easy to make, then prove to us that you can make a bomb by just following these so called patterns and formulas.

Actually that's a very good point. Plenty of people jump on a bandwagon when something is popular then later claim how they were there at the peak but don't listen anymore as it doesn't compare.

If you had a real passion for it, you would still like it.

started listening to trance in the ¨golden years¨, after four or five years got over it, probably over listened to it like i over do alot of things until i´m sick of it but the more and more jaded i got at the formulaic bullshit being released the more i searched for some good older stuff, kept on going back in time, for me the stuff around 94 - 97 is incredible! maybe cause its more proggy and i like prog. i gave myself a three year break from trance and i found that im loving some stuff like Tiesto - Club Space like i did all those years ago

you should all be greatful that you can choose what you listen to in clubs, the only electronica club in this city plays Love Generation and World Goes On five times a night amongst other bullshit

I cant be bothered addressing all the wrong points made so I'll keep it brief.

Firstly, I mentioned 98 / 99 trance, because that is when I started listening to it. I listened till 2004 and then gave up on it as it hadn't changed. The same rules apply for trance today. If I got in to it tommorow, within a few years I'd be over it. Yer, so I probably won't like some of what I listen to today in 2010. People's taste evolves. Most people, maybe not some of you lot.

Don't tell me I only listen to music thats popular at the time, that is almost the exact reverse in my situation. Jumping off the band wagon, thats ridiculous. I was supporting trance right up into 2004, when it was clearly getting left for other genres and absolutley slagged. I left when I wanted to, when trance did nothing for me anymore. I did the same with progressive a bit over a year later (cos hey, theres fuck all difference). Its about refining yourself. You start off simple (trance) and move on as you learn more about the world of music out there.

To say that I never had a real passion for something as I don't still like it, is about the stupidest comment ever. Thats like saying that because I don't love an ex girlfriend years after we broke up, I never truly loved her.

Isn't it healthy to have a ever changing taste in music? I think so. Some people obviously are content with sticking with trance (or one style) for ever. I find those people boring.

And I will judge people based on thier music tastes; if thats how they want to identify with me. So thats 90% of people on this board, everyone other than those I know in person and connect with them on a different level now.

Music is a massive part of my life, and fuck anyone that can't keep up. I'll be jaded because I don't want to just listen to anything. I don't want to listen to what "most" people listen to, because "most" people are fucking stupid and ruin it for me.

So to finish off: Trance is an boring genre, I dont give a fuck if its got better or worse, its still fucking trance. Its there as its accessible and "fun" early in your musical journey. You find new stuff and move on. If you don't move on, you obviously have an inability to recognise artistic achievement outside the confines of simple music.

by totally barring a total genre of music based on its most commercial and accesable forms, without even trying to listen to something calssified as being in that genre - no matter how good it is...your being boring
