Not really. It may be a part of a new fad of electro-trance, thanks to Ferry Corsten, but for the trance a lot of us got into, the more melodic variety, probably not. But I think they had some cool sounds with their tracks, like "Lullaby", "Astra", "3579 KM" and "Novocaine". I can just see potentional in their tracks, that can further progress the sound. Sort of a fusion of epic and progressive. Just like any artist(s) they have some time to mature... But I can see "electro-trance" becoming a new sub-genre of trance. There could also be a new sub-genre for stuff that Kalafut & Fygle and Ljungqvist and a few others make.

There is no ONE thing that will save trance, it's a lot of things that need improving. Caning one sound won't do it. The bottom line is it just needs to be interesting, exciting, danceable, and also danceable by people who aren't just high and wanting it fast and hard and in your face! People that normally prefer house will be able to also enjoy the uplifting melodies of trance if it's fed to them in terms that are danceable without needing to be on drugs ie: not 140bpm.

These forums see some aimless threads but this is up there. Great stuff.

It has nothing to do with the music or the producers or the record labels. Trance culture is dead. It has been for years, its just becoming more apparent now.

In the early 90's Trance represented a desire for mind expansion and self expression through electronic/rhythmic music and drugs. It managed to maintain 'some' of this philosophy through the huge rise of club culture in the late 90's but it really lost its way not too long ago.

On one side of the fence, its far too commercial for real freaks to consider even remotely appealing and on the other side, for those who want a nice safe clubbing experience, theres plenty of other original and new music to choose over the same old tired anthem structure of trance.

Why does any of this matter? Because its the fans that shape the music. When those fans are only supporting a small slice of the same copycat artists and only attending events to see massive ego fuelled DJ stars, decay starts to set in and the vicious cycle of commercial dominance continues.

Somehow the movement forgot what sacred intentions it originally had. And lets face it, how could it really maintain those principles when to a lot of people, trance represents huge superstar DJ's playing in massive amphitheatres.

Trance strayed far too close to the boundaries of commercial exploitation and now... well.. now its fucked. The best thing that can happen is that it shrinks to nothing, all the money grabbers and superstars fuck off to electro/house/whatever and then it arises from a new generation with a new set of ideals.

But hey, thats just my skewed perspective, a lot of people really like this new easy listening trance. I just wonder for how long though.

The reason I posted what I said is because you repeatedly criticise people on here for moaning/complaining/worrying about the trance scene but not doing anything about it.

So in regards to this subject alone, I don't see what we are REALISTICALLY meant to do about it. We like the music we like. We will attend the club nights that appeal to us. If we want to do other things other than clubbing then we will. I can't in anyway affect the quality of productions coming out other than not to buy them and I don't buy them. Doesnt make a difference because there are plenty of people out there who do buy them and therefore obviously like them.

You talk about finding ways to support local scene, to change things, to make a difference, but you don't come up with any examples of how we could do this. So like Paul Andrews said, you are an idealist, but in practical terms you are being unrealistic.

Think I should add, I'm not criticising you nemesis, like i've mentioned, i appreciate the sentiment and its a positive attitude but I don't really see what you expect to achieve

Trance is far from dead,its just took a new path thats all.Djs are just fusing elements of many different genres into Trance to make it sound different as tunes as of late were getting too repetitive.

man you know thats not true at all. I'm tired of him constantly bashing people on here because of their tastes. I bash no one on here and respect everyones opinions. I agree more BS doesn't belong here, but for him theres always the exception and hes the target, not the music.
