i dont mean that the PS3 has a heat problem or anything. just that smaller cases tend to run hotter and why would you want slim other than for the looks? |
Your mentioning of a heat problem might be addressed by this little tidbit: (I honestly don't know, my lack of knowledge in just about all things hardware doesn't really help me in answering your question)
| quote: | | The PS3 Slim is powered by a new 45nm version of the Cell processor, which runs at the same speed as the 60nm processor in the "old" PS3 but is smaller and more energy efficient. According to company reps, power consumption for the Slim has also been cut to two-thirds |
I guess to answer your question, a slim lined version of the console would permit for more power efficiency and reduced fan noise. But really, it is more so for the looks, like you mentioned. It'd be like releasing a new product altogether, re-stimulating public interest in the PS3 in hopes of picking up the sales that have been stagnating since last Christmas.
I also read that the cooling mechanism has been entirely re-designed.
