I agree with you, Nrg, that you can achieve muscle growth by abusing the living hell out of your muscles, but you can also achieve it (arguably faster) by working out with the appropriate frequency and consistency.
At least, that has been my experience over the last 11 years. Some people are hard gainers and may need to resort to more drastic measures in order to stimulate muscle growth.
edit: with regard to the no pain no gain idea, i totally agree. I put my body though a lot in the gym, i might be kind of sore in the morning but three days is excessive. Most of the pain i experience is during the workout. |
I agree with mason, three days is a bit too much. Also in my experience abusing the hell out of your muscles is useful for gaining strength, afterwards to get more muscle mass or definition more reps with a good amount of weight is good enough and it usually wont get you very sore. What I do is go low rep and high weight for a month or two after i take a break and then go for the rest of the time with medium weight (abt 80% of my max) increasing the amount of reps every time i go until i hit abt 12 reps then move up in weight. But yeah, consistency and proper rest/diet will get you more gains in mass then abusing them (although the latter is a lot of fun).
