so i'm lazily grabbing 'breakfast in a bar' which is actually healthier than it sounds, and sadly for some people it's not bacon, egg, sausage etc and I notice that the best before date just happens to be my brothers birthday this year. Do I wrap the final bar up as his present?

Another one of the many failures of the socialized health care system. Here in the US, you go to a phlebotomist. We almost always have separate places for this shit. Rarely does your actual doctor take the blood. Keeps the doctor where they need them, not doing menial shit like this.

Seriously, the only test they done was take blood cultures and are going to phone through the results to me.... ggrr our hospitals the nursing staff take the bloods but dont know what happened tonight

Exactly the same here. And the labs, depending on your health care company (read: HMO vs PPO/POS), are either on the same campus or at a separate location nearby.
