The sentiment seems to be anti unions/failing companies, and I could see America becoming a leader in new energies (our vast natural potential as a source of that is where Canada fits in nicely). The Big 3 might shrink to 2, but they can streamline and do more research rather than mass production with unions running that show.

As much i'd like the auto industry to be helped, there is simply too much that needs to change for it to be successful.
The big 3 went to the govt begging for money and had no plans. There's no way they will be handed a blank check. Even the 25 bln they are asking sooner to make more efficient cars will be used....not to build more efficient cars, but to save their asses....somewhat
The big 3 have shot themselves in the foot in soooo many ways, retarded benefit plans, retirement benefits, salaries that just don't make sense for assembly line work. Also, upper mgmt failed to see trends and kept building gas guzzlers while others started building fuel efficient vehicles and gas prices kept going up.
I mean gas prices have been on the rise for the last 3.5 years....and they slept on it...
At least one of the 3 is doomed for failure, and unless they change their management and get a fresh start...they are fucked...
That's why many are saying let them file chapter 11.....but there is so much at stake...!
