technicality
Hi,
just a suggestion (i have some backround in math/stats and working with empirical data).
To create a top 100 list from users' top 10 lists, the first song on each list must get 100 points, not 10.
Here's how it would work:
1 - 100
2 - 99
3 - 98
4 - 97
5 - 96
6 - 95
7 - 94
8 - 93
9 - 92
10- 91
Why?
suppose 100 people vote.
For some reason, 11 of those people rank Scooter's "Jigga Jigga" as their top song... but no-one else votes for it. The song would still get 110 points (under the current system).
Let's suppose 90 people list Faithless' "God is a DJ" at their #10 all time favourite song.
Under the current system it would only get 90 points... a few notches below Scooter. Even though it's clearly a more "favoured" song.
under the 100 point system,
scooter would get 11 x 100 = 1100 points.
Faithless would get 90 x 91 = 8190 points.
Awarding 10 points to the first, and 1 point to the last song is ideal for creating some sort of ultimate top 10 list... but it would create a very misleading top 100 list.
As is, the first song doesn't just get 9 more points than the #10 song... it gets 10 TIMES MORE POINTS!
Once the list is compiled, 20 songs or so would get a HUGE amount of points... but the rest wouldn't get anything... so ranking them would be very difficult.
just an idea...
