Yeah, it was pretty ordinary. I still say that Gerrard and Lampard can't play in the same team, and given all the chances that Lampard fluffed it might be worth trying Gerrard and Carragher in the midfield against Sweden - they should know each other's game from playing with Liverpool and it should free up Gerrard to push forward a bit more. It might even be worth playing a 5 man midfield with Lennon on the right (because he looked dangerous from the second he came on) and playing Beckham more centrally, but hey - what the fuck do I know.

typical gerrard goal, brilliant strike

england though did not deserve to win thta game, and once they start playing againts some better teams they will crumble if they keep playing the way they do. Long ball football is not going to win them a world cup. Rio Ferdinand is for the TIp, ive never rated him at all

yeah, im a little unsettled after last night the midfield just doesnt seem to be doing enough in providing quality balls nor their own really attacking play.

still, sweden arent slouches and they couldnt crack the T&T defence. and paraguay are a decent team and couldnt crack ours. for me its significant we havent conceded yet (close last night tho!!) coz ive always felt our backline let us down on previous occasions.

im hoping really rich opposition will bring the best out of us. looks like equador next round...

mate, what i dont understand is that with a midfield like england has: gerrad, lampard, cole, beckham why would they continue playing the long ball and bypass a midfield like that time and time again, i dont really understand there mentality there, Rio is the main culprit, if they kept the ball along the turf more they would create many more chances and would get the guys like gerrard, lampard, owen etc etc involved more

yeah, i dont understand it either still, theres still hope when we\'re winning games without really utilising our greatest strength.

finally got fifa world cup 2006 and my bloody arm hurts today (not used to the PS controllers). poor ol england\'s qualifying games have been almost as poor as their real life performances

Carra plays centre half for Liverpool :P

though under Houllier he played at full back when they still had the big swiss Stephane Henchoz partnering Hyppia. It will be interesting to see Carragher given a midfield role, it could be a risk, but then its only England.

Carragher in midfield

FUCKEN LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you bag Lampard, a center midfielder getting in scoring positions consistently. Midfielders like that are a dime a dozen. Didnt score last nite but wont be long. What England needs is some center forwards end of story. Defence, rock solid, midfield rock solid, forward line is about a division 6 standard is Australia. Might as well try theo walcott, not much to lose...

Kelsta are you a carpet muncher?

carragher in midfield isn't that strange a suggestion. he was tried in the holding role against hungary in a warm up match and performed pretty well.

owen is the guy that has to sit out, allowing carrick or hargreaves to come into midfield and freeing up lampard and gerrard to both attack in tandem. at the moment england are far too predictable and a 5 man midfield would change that. opposition defences wouldn't know where the next attacking surge was going to come from. lennon and downing are great impact subs, which is how crouch and owen should be used as well once rooney is fully fit.

anyway, we'll perform when it matters most hopefully!

good luck to the ivory coast tonight would love to see them progress.

argentina's second goal against serbia will be the goal of the tournament & be seen on many dvds for years to come.

argentina are really fast at the ball and playing lovely football. im embarrassed for england by some of these other teams argentina, spain & czech republic looking good.
