Could not agree more, third time I've seen him, way better than last time, more energy, more melody, my mates who have never been raving before and loved him. Tetris song FTW!!!

Remo-con was also pretty damn good, anybody know what the pirates of the caribean song was? The one with the davy jones sample in it?

John '00' Flemming was fantastic, my mates loved him, the psy-trance stage was great, he was loving it up there.

Nice way to finish with PVD

First Kryal and it was amazing, shame about all the shit its copping in the media

We decided to catch the train from Melbourne to Ballarat and then a cab from the station to the castle - a smart move considering the police presence on the highway and in and around the castle prior, throughout and after the event.
The castle is an ideal location for an outdoor party with plenty of amenities and space. The camping ground was right outside the castle walls 20 metres from the main entrance. Inside the walls were bars, stalls, eateries, massagechairs, playground carousells, a permanent grand stand type of structure built out of large blocks of rock, two stages and three rooms. The dancefloors in front of the stages were plywood sheets on timber frames surrounded by grassed areas. The fast foods were ordinary but reasonably priced, the booze was $10 for a can (complete madness) Red Bull was $8 (still madness) and Coke cans or 250ml water was $3. There was however a clean and drained area around a water tank for refills and the permanent restrooms had plenty of taps with clean drinkable water. The overall first impression was positive and organised.
We arrived just in time for the opening set of Ben Evans (main arena themed Hardware vs Pharmacy) who dropped Ace Ventura's 'Presence' as his forth track - our first highlight for the night ahead - followed by Mike Callendar and then Joel Mull (SWE).
The crowd kept building solidly for the first four hours and at 9pm the Tribadelic Arena, Generationnext Room, Magic Room with the Interview Crew from Melbourne and the Techno Temple Room opened the doors. We checked out the various rooms, acts and massage chairs until 10:30pm, the next highlight - Shpongle at the Tribadelic Arena - for two hours until 12:30am. All pure quality and our primer for what was to come...
Decoy from St Kilda, Melbourne followed on From Shpongle and kept the Psy Waves rolling in. Then it was time to move back down to the main arena for about 30 minutes of Hallucinogen -BIG HIGHLIGHT - very intelligent, very much quality, very spaced out Psy Trance - Simon Posford is a true legend.
At 2:20am we hurried back to the Tribadelic Arena for the Grandmaster - and a GRANDMASTER he proved to be once again... I am not a great believer in one and a half hour sets and prefer the 2 and a half hour upwards but John knew he had no time to waste and kicked it in tight from the word go right to the end. Tracklisting - I am afraid I am at a loss - bar two or three tracks in the first half an hour, I didn't recognise the rest and seriously suspected that he was playing tunes from the upcoming 00db release, something he confirmed during our chat after the gig.
Afterwards we went back to the main arena where set times had shifted behind and caught Bart Claessens (NLD) before PVD. It was good to see some of their performances and the crowds went ape but about half way through Paul's set we went back up to the Tribadelic Arena and concluded with Ozzy from Melbourne who served up a grooving and sticky tribadelic performance. At 6:15 am we left the confines of the castle, the main crowd still rocking and od-ing to PVD.

John was originally billed to play the main stage before Paul and we are still not clear why the organisers shifted him short-noticed to the Tribadelic Arena. Possibly because Bart Claessens had been added to the line-up only a week prior to the event and there may have been some politics about who is better suited for the Hardware vs Pharmacy themed main stage.
John may not have had the exposure at the Tribadelic Arena but the floor was well packed and yet intimate enough to give it a feel of a private party, a feat that was much to our liking.

The sound systems of the two stages were from a purist point of view poor quality. The main stage had left channel drop outs frequently throughout the entire night and appeared to me as overdriven and distorted at the bass and mids and too thin at the top end.
The Tribadelic Arena seemed to have the exact opposite trouble with too little output into big bins resulting in inadequate bass delivery 5 metres away from the stage.

My Verdict: We did have overall a positive experience and encountered no trouble - fortunately. Separate the Hard Dance/ Hard Core etc from the Prog and Psy at events cause the crowd does not mix - never will!!!
I just say "Earthcore" - what a beautiful example in comparison to Ultraworld. I rather get the occasional wiff of body odor than be surrounded by twitching, drugged out of their head kids that only seem to understand the spectacular side of ripping beats and blinding strobes...Events with a format like this can kiss my arse good-bye from now on!

Ha, my mum read this to me this morning, she said "if you suffered from epilepsy why would you stand in front of a strobe?"

Dancing Dude

sounds like herald suns writers are the creative writers from today tonight; Joyce Ryall said it all pretty sweet though

quote:
But Kryal Castle joint owner Joyce Ryall defended the dance parties, held since 1996.

She said the number of overdoses was a small percentage of the crowd. "We had worse when there was jousting going on (in the 1970s). Back then people nearly lost their heads," she said.

"They hire the venue at Kryal Castle because it has a magical atmosphere and you can control the crowd because of the bluestone complete walls.

"They are not going to stop taking drugs, so where else are they going to go?"

Counselling and first-aid group Rave Safe said it was ordered not to attend by promoter Hardware Corporation.

I do kind of wonder if there will be another one though, fingers crossed. WTF was with no rave save though? that is just stupid!

It's stupid bloody politics. If they have ravesafe there it's admitting they can't control the drugs.

the "quotes" by some of the kryal attendee's that have found their way into the story in the herald sun have been stolen off inthemix.com.au ... journo's are fucking scum.

you're going to get drug abusers and drink abusers at any event you go to but - surprise, surprise - it's pretty easy for journo's to jump on the negative bandwagon with regards to something like a dance party given it's seen as being primarily associated with drug taking. what about a story about how much fun the majority of the kryal attendee's had? oh thats right, that doesn't make for interesting reading for the quiet town of ballarat where reporters are obviously gunna jump on any news they can and kryal seems to be the best and easiest breeding ground for bad press.

what a joke...

i can't imagine how my mates that were "quoted" are feeling right now... they love the scene and now naive readers are going to lap up exactly what the equally as naive reporters are going to force down their throats.
