Yes, I know. My point is that to refer to someone from the United States as an "American" and to someone who is from let's say...Colombia as "not an American" is wrong. Both countries are part of a whole big-ass continent called America which is then divided into North, South and Central America. Claiming that America is solely the United States and that an American is solely that who was born in the United States is ignorant when that clearly is not the case.
