Lira recommended me this book, so I bought it from Amazon and it arrived on Monday. I'm only about to start the 3rd chapter but I'm loving it so far.

Basically a collection of essays on lots of areas of higher math, designed to be accessible and clear without being dumbed down too much. Not really a linear read, but I am looking through the introductory parts now.

I am bookless, but awaiting the arrival of George RR Martin's 'A Game of Thrones', on a recommendation.

I think I got a pretty good reading list.. I decided to turn my brain on after a few years of autopilot and start exploring different subjects (history, science, religion, philosophy, rhetoric, critical thinking, etc). This is the library I built for myself over the past few months..

I checked the Amazon reviews for each one and most sound quite good.. I'm only ashamed of a few of the books I got for the lulz (the stuff from Hubbard and Coulter). They were so cheap with combined shipping I figured what the hell..I can probably trade them in for $2 each at Half Price Books when I'm done.

What I like about it is how Danielewski really pushed to the boundaries of the mediums possibilities. It's a book that only can be a book. You could never tell the story verbally or on the radio, you could never make a movie from it (I guess Hollywood will try anyway and put out some atrocious shit), it can only be what it is, making it unique and original. Same way I like movies that make the most use of imagery and sound, that could not simply tell the same story as a novel.

Maybe I'm pessimistic and it can actually work out. I just thought of Adaptation and how it's possibly the most brilliant adaptation of a book (that, like House of Leaves, can only be a book). So if they get Charlie Kaufman to write the script and David Lynch to direct... yeah, maybe then they should make it a movie...
