OMFG...someone on this thread just justified 9-11...

thats horeshit.

and when will you people start saying the Bush Administration, not just Bush. You have to hate the administration as a whole, they do the decision making. Hating only the president is childish and unfactual, and should have nothing to do with a political debate.

EDIT: On a side note, anyone seen the videos of arabs on the street, burning effigys of Clinton? I have. clinton just sent missles to deal with terrorism, not really dealing with the problem. I think he would have done a lousier job than Bush after 9-11.

And we aren't scared by it or trying to reverse that. I used to be pissed off that we never declared English as the official language of America. I actually now relish in the fact that we don't have an official language. That any language or culture has an equal voice in our society.

I don't know if this is still going on, but way back when I used to live in Europe, I remember there were strong anti-minority sentiments in much of Europe, especially France and Germany. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but neo-nazism was on the rise in Germany a few years back and the French were particularly discriminatory against Africans and what not. Again I dont mean to offend anybody but that was the mood that I sensed at the time.

Not that that kind of things doesn't happen in America but I think that we do a pretty damned good job in maintaining an open atmosphere.

Edit: btw I think Canada is just as good as the US if not better with respects to an open, inviting society. When I visited Toronto a few times it seemed one of the most diverse cities I've ever visited. Maybe only surpassed by New York.

Yes so true, and yes, in Germany, England and France there's a very big anti-imigrant movement, in England I know there's this huge problem in it, and yes, that's why the United States is looked upon by many imigrants, there's so much diversity, I live in Florida, North Miami Beach, and there's so many of everything, Israelis, Brazilians, Argentinians, Haitians, English, Italians, French, Canadians, Germans, .. out of everywhere!! he, it's amazing how we all get along.

If America lived up to the ideals that it so readily professes to believe in then america would be a country to admire. The truth is people used to respect and admire america. Even in the middle east.

Things have changed.

America was never a perfect country but at least it had values, the "american dream" was is for most people around the world a straight out nightmare.

George W. Bush is no Harry Truman and Powell is no General Marshall.

America used to be an immensely powerful country. It isnt anymore.

The Soviet Union collapsed amongst many reasons because it spent money on weapons it couldnt afford.

America does exactly the same thing. America might have this all powerful army, but it cant afford to maintain it. In effect foreigners actually pay for the US armed forces by buying the bonds used to service US debt. And when confidence in the US financial system collapses then so to will the US economy and its all powerful military. Remember no one expected the Soviet Union to collapse but it did, many of exactly the same factors are present in the USA.

There are so many economic factors working against the United States, it is hard not to see something potentially very dire happening to its economy and then the global economy. For instance this taken from the Australian a right wing paper owned by News Corp:

"Edition: 1 - TC
Section: Finance, pg. 033

GLOBAL institutions have handed Saddam Hussein a new weapon -- the
ability to damage world markets if he can prolong the war.

The 15 per cent rise in the US market in just over a week was based
on the belief that the war would be quick and successful.

But if the hostilities are drawn out, most of the market gains will
vanish.

A 15 per cent gain followed quickly by a similar loss would be unprecedentedin markets over the past 20 years and would ravage a large number of US and global institutions.

The losses would test the derivatives systems on which global share
markets -- including Australia's -- are based. Derivate securities
including options, swaps and warrants, are designed to maximise
institutional performance. They have greatly reduced the holdings
of physical shares by many institutions.

The derivatives network revolves around about six or seven big institutions led by J.P. Morgan and it is possible one of them might have been badly damaged by a wrong call.

Around March 12, when the Dow Jones industrial average index of US
shares fell below 7400, most of the big institutions had their the
derivative settings for a bear market and further falls -- at
least until the war was over.

Many fund managers were unprepared for what was to happen. The market, based on the advice of retired military experts, anticipated
the war's outcome and soared. The institutions had to scramble to
change their settings which fuelled the buying and drove the market
even higher.

In the process this changed the messages coming from the charts and
many started to forecast a return to the bull market.

Many institutions, in an attempt to cover their earlier losses, anticipated big gains after a successful war. If markets fall substantially they will suffer more big losses.

It should be remembered that the Dow rose from under 7400 to 8552
and on Monday it had only retreated to 8214. A much bigger fall will
be required to trigger problems. But if the war is drawn out,
then the Dow will almost certainly test the 7400 level again and
the losses will be enormous. The solvency of the derivatives system,
which depends on its weakest link, would then be tested as never
before.

In effect, share investors are being asked to make two calls. First,
will the US win in a quick war? If it does, then we are almost
certainly headed for strong markets in the short term. If it does
not, be ready for that big fall.

The second decision is whether a successful war will result in a sustained boost for the US and global economies.

Morgan Stanley chief economist Stephen Roach warns that there are
too many obstacles -- the US economy was struggling before the war
and it will suffer a further setback even if there is success in
the Middle East.

I have been a follower of Roach for years and I think he is right
again. And if that is the case then the US share markets face a lot
of danger. Fortunately, our market has been much more restrained
and is not as vulnerable."

There are still a great many a hillbilly-hick-moron who wish that English were the "official" language, and seeth that whites are soon to be the minority. I'm glad you feel differently.

I believe you are right here actually. From my experience Europe is a far more xenophobic place than America. Since the crumbling of imperial Europe there has been a massiver influx of immigrants from all former colonies (like Pakistanis, Indians, West Indies in Britain...French North Africans...etc...) and Europeans tend to have little tolerance for these people. In fact I remember reading about the anti-muslim backlash in Europe after 911 being greater in France than in America...go figure? I was in Austria last summer and a man started yelling at me "go home American"...and I'm not even American..I'm Canadian. What lovely warm and accepting people

So, Thank you America for Americans, by far some of the kindest and friendliest people I've ever met.

LoL you know, my parents got a bill of like 500 bucks, then the government sent them a letter that more then half that money must be returned back, and that same thing happened to another some millions of americans. I remember bunch of people where complaining of why do the tax cut if all they are going to get is 100 bucks or less. My tearchers got a check of 50 bucks, others for like 30. It was, rediculous kinda. hehehe..

And well, I believe that thanks to that tax cut, im not sure, the social security lost bunch of money, and that's why it's in like some danger from now to like 50 or 10 years.. but hey, great that it helped you for school..

And well, I hope that money helps you educate yourself and behave not cursing in public with nonsense.
