I didn't quite pick up on that the first time, but I understand what you're saying now. It would be nice to have more trance at clubs regularly, but I think the problem is that very good trance DJ's seem to get very popular very fast, to the point where clubs can't afford them as residents. Except for the UK, where trance IS mainstream.
But I wouldn't wager money on that - it's just one possible reason why things are the way they are with trance. Personally it doesn't bother me, since I like the jungle/breaks/HHC/psy parties too. 
In relation to "cheesing-up", I wasn't really referring so much to changing the music itself, so much as having it used as a marketing tool. Hearing trance music on an ad for AOL and seeing the next WEMF sponsored by Wal-Mart would just not be cool at all...
