definitely the white lables yo, from what i've read, they make the ortofon's look like trash. Shure just blew ortofon completely away

your forgot the part about them eating/tearing up your records

For hip hop/rap/scratching applications they are king but at a price (record wear)

for me its Ortfon Concorde Blue's all the way baby

Ok now that we have determined that the white lables are the best how does everybody recommend setting the tone arm / counter wieght / cartridge wieght?

Own 4 different pair of needles. I just experiment with them

Shure M44-7s

Shure Whitelabels

Stanton Trackmaster II's

Ortofon NightClub with the S and E tip's.

Here is my laydown on them. The Shure M447s are killer if you are into hip hop and turntablist type mixing. The record wear is very minimal with these. (all depending on how much pressure is exerted on the styli tip)

The whitelabels do have a good sound. Good clean highs, good mids but the bass is almost too punchie when listening on studio monitors (the ones i have are the mackie HR824's and they have a flat responce) as for the record wear, shure claims it to be minimal.. but they are so new that I cannot tell for sure.

Trackmasters...... bought them, had them for a week and sold them. The highs werent crisp, the mids were good as was the bass. They just did not sound clean. enough said.

Ortofon Nightclub. These are the best carts i have ever owned. I only have to put on 2 grams of pressure on the tip and it sticks and never skips. The sound quality is superb, it has an extrememly high output. Meaning your gains do not have to be as high to get the sounds at a good level for recording. The highs are clean and crisp. The vocals sound are very clear and when "s's" are sang or said it doesnt sound like 'thhp' The whitelabels do compair with orto's but these still are my winners.

In all, if you are on a budget, go with the whitelabels. They are good for their price but the orto's are tried and tested. Look at what the majority of clubs use. Nightclubs. or other upper end ortos.

DJ Tranz... how often do you change the styli tip? That can make a huge diff. in sound quality.

Anyone have a picture of some white-labels in action? I mean, let's not forget how important looks are in your needle, heh

When I had my Ortofon Pro DJ S Concordes, I replaced styli on both carts about 4.5 months after I got them, since gotten the Shure whitelabels, and it's been a while, I don't think I'll be changing them for a few years. And if I had to, styli are only about $26.00 each vs. ortofon replacement tips at average $45.00 each...

2 Blithe, sorry dude, I'm not at home right now,I'm in San Francisco, but when I get back to Los Angeles, I'll try to upload a few pics from my club nights with my gear and shure White Labels In Action.

Thanks for all the advice guys. The whitelabels are expensive though....

I'd rather pay more for a needle that won't wear out my irreplaceable $20+ records, than a cheaper one though.

Those concords kinda wear records alot, so you better go for the Shure needle. It's the best there is for the moment.

How much are they. Have you used the white lables? If so, are they better

Vlad beat me to it, hahaha. That cartridge is USD $325.00 and you need to have a good headshell like Technics M3D headshell. These are two notches above Shure White Labels, and being that these are made by Shure as well, and knowing they are two notches above white labels, These $325.00 carts are better than white labels. Do you really need them, NO, will you notice difference in sound, YES BUT only in a huge club atmosphere is if using elliptical tip in a recording studio.
