in any case, the stuff you mentioned above are faults of *people*. don't make the dumb-assed mistake that's made by so many out there -
religion is man-made. *god*, whatever name you choose to call him, in whatever possibility of his existence, is not.
don't confuse the two. |
Your right.. i made the mistake of asuming too much... its funny how history never repeats itself.. only human folly does...

First to say, I'm an atheist with a streak of agnosticism.
| quote: | | im an atheist (along with half of australia).. religions are for people with weak minds that cant accept that we are completely useless and whose lives have no value what so ever in the scheme of things. a very sad amd depressing concept for most (even for atheists) but enlightening for a lucky few (not saying im one). |
Heh, I'd be one of those people who find the concept of us being useless in the grand scheme of things, or the complete lack of such a scheme, enlightening. On one side, it means we are completely on our own without anyone to turn to, but on the other side, it's what makes us free instead of being puppets of some supreme being. It also makes all of our civilizational achievements that more valuable, because we made them on our own without anyone to help us. We are free to design our own scheme of things which suits us, or in other words, we can be our own gods.
| quote: | | The only way you can be certain something does not exist is if it has contradictory properties, such as a square circle. So, unless you can show what contradictory properties all gods and goddesses have, atheism is as irrational a position as traditional theism. |
A being capable of everything is contradictory. To use a simple exampe, it can't make a rock it can't lift.

| quote: | | you need to read posts more carefully. first of all, are you saying that just because *i* don't understand atheism? |
When did i point the finger at you?
| quote: | | Untrue. Just because don't understand atheism, and give it a pseudo-definition doesn't mean that their definition is right. Atheist - One who does not believe in any god or gods. Whether this is what the mass accepts or not, it is still true. |
I'm missing "one" after "because", and "don't" should be "doesn't". I really should start proofing these before I post. I'm turning into Michiline. :\
Sorry about the mix-up.

it's simple really, people initally came up with the idea of god(s) to explain the unexplainable... then it kept being taken further and people came up with religions, and look where that has led the world...
