great post

i've always said that trance was almost starting to lose its way. it became riddled with hard trance elements (or cheese :P) and then there was the big shift to progressive too. my staying point has been that that one person to lead trance is tiesto. pvd, armin, ferry, they all have their place, but in terms of a production and djing (which functions as promotional trance to the masses of uneducated (and educated) clubbers and ravers) tiesto is simply the person to lead the way.

Translation into laymens' terms: DJs are still producing trance but they're now discovering ways to leave the cheeze factor out.

Which is good, because he's saying it's now possible to produce trance with all its good points, minus the "kick-BASS-kick-BASS" and "dink-dink-dink de-dink dink-dink" clichés. In other words, he's saying that trance is evolving. Not dying, but evolving.

p.s. I'll blame him on this: I hate it when people use names of marginalized groups (i.e. gay) to describe something they don't like.

AHEMMM totally agree, cant blame a dj for moving on and trying to experiment with some other types of sounds....personally, i would back tiesto on this....first of all, just because he decides to not "play" a type of track from goureylla "doesnt mean he is"gay" or make him a BAD person...you cant judge a person by these means....i personally think that his new sound is GREAT!!!!makes the fan more interested...CHANGE IS GOOD!!!!!

I think what Tiesto is saying and doing with Nyana is good.
He is PLaying a hell of a lot 'Pure-r' trance now than he has in the past.

And then I read he wants to PLay techno parties....yum.

I heard that Tiesto and Ferry split up because they could not stand each other?

he has no time... so he leaves gouryella but the label demands another 'gouryella single' since it was still under contract agreement that gouryella release more material.. so ferry carries on the gouryella project without tiesto and completes "ligaya" with some help from a classical music composer and IMHO did an outstanding job giving the track that "epic gouryella feel" to it this time using a longer, more complicated main melody instead of the ear friendly simpler melodies used in the previous 3 gouryella releases...

so... during this time, tiesto ventures out to remixing genre questionable tracks, experiments different style of producing rather than his trademark trance productions, plays prog & tech-house filled sets(he had to play some trance here & there cuz obviously he got known for the trance sound..)and even disses the trance genre.. he says in one interview "djs are finding new ways to produce trance music without it sounding so gay." lol.. how can u say shit like this to something that got you where you are today.. someone that once said about the trance genre, "the best thing to come out of house music".. i mean, ppl noticed his trance remixes and productions and loved his pioneering "dutch trance" sound.. his remix of delerium's "silence" was the track that got him worldwide fame and to to call it "gay" just shows that shit got to his head waaay too much ok and heres the fun part.. the NOW tiesto which i've been noticing, his recent sets has been filled with "gay trance", releases(or will release should i say..) a double disc compilation thats most definately trance-oriented(on both discs)
and even produced a new track which if you ask me its fucking epic trance which has a similar title name as "ligaya" "nyana"...i mean, i thought his sound doesnt match the gouryella sound anymore? why is he producing 99 tiesto-ish trance? if this was the case, why leave gouryella in the first place? honestly i like the new track nyana and i have nothing against his producing skills.. its the MAN im questioning about thanx for reading thru my frustration ppl, peace

spot on. nothing else to say really. infact, one of my all time fav tracks is Gouryella - Gouryella, so for him to turn round and call this kind of trance "gay," when his new found style is shit and he cant even mix with, is actually quite upsetting. I for one would love to see the old tiesto come back. fack it!

No, you're taking the quote out of context. He didn't mean that Gouryella kind of trance is "gay". He meant that those tracks from today that try to imitate the old oversaturated formula of 99 are anachronistic and irrelevant, therefore "gay".

He hasn't rejected the old school sound of Gouryella, in fact I heard him spin Gouryella-Gouryella and The Orange Theme a few months ago. He evokes the '99 sound in Nyana and other recent productions, but it's just an evokation using an innovative style, not a cheap imitation that follows the same ol' formula that is still being used by Ferry in his System F album (so boring ) .

The old Tiesto won't come back ever again because the new Tiesto is light years more evolved and sophisticated than that old Tiesto. Peace.

For those who think Tiesto plays tech house; I think you need to get yourself some sets from michel de hey, then come back saying tiesto plays that

Tiesto is 100% trance

thanx for understanding my point.. im a fan of his work(not his djing..and YES i seen him live numerous times to judge for myself that he is def. a better producer than a dj..) and im not mad at tiesto for venturing out, experimenting, and everything else that he did.. i mean thats what great djs do, but what did tick me off was that he made it sound like as if he'll never produce 'dutch epic trance' ever again..then makes nyana which of course has a modern feel to it and its def. tiesto sound, but the overall feeling you get from the track is fucking Epic..(dutch melodic epic trance !)especially the last part of the track.. so by doing this, i think its a bit unfair to ferry like "look, i can do whatever i want!" kinda thing..

Which is a Ferry Corsten production, and it's horribly obvious.

"Abnea - Velvet Moods (Tiesto Remix)" is my favorite work of Tiesto, and it also illustrates the typical sound of Tiesto back in 1998-2000 that I so much loved ( I still do). His remix of "Delerium - Silence" is the runner-up, and one of the best productions back then. But "Gouryella" obviously isn't his work at all, other than maybe the melody. He also failed to contribute in his collaborations with Bervoets and De Goeij, even though the results still were more than satisfying though.

NO NO NO, he never rejected Dutch epic trance. He rejected the superficial fluffy sound that had given the genre a bad name to the rest of the world. But he never stopped playing (or producing) Dutch epic trance with substance and quality like Midway and Three Drives kind of stuff. Nyana has substance, all quality, and is NEVER contrived or pretentiously driven to get the hands in the air effect. I can't really say the same thing about Ligaya though.
