True... just check out the progressive talent they started bringing out every Saturday @ System...

Breathe a couple of years ago were the shizzle...

I cant count how many DJS made their local TO DEBUTS at that place...all before they were the superstar djs that they are today...!

Ashley Casselle, Steve Lawler, Anthony Pappa, Hybrid, Tom Stephan, Paolo Mojo, Lee Burridge, Cass, Mauro Picotto and countless others...!

I think they're entitled to bring in classic DJ's for the occasional night as a breather in their "trend setting", just like the DJ's themselves are entitled to drop the occasional classic track, no?

When a club is constantly bringing in DJ's that haven't been popular since '99 then it's a problem but that's not the case here.

Enough prog and/or trance bashing! Clearly we have both scenes here and that should make everyone happy.

Well. The bottom line in clubland is always money. I don't think that System booking more trance is indicitive of a growing popularity in trance, as much as it is indicitive of how Guv has the prog market more or less cornered at the moment. That said, I think trance is gaining popularity, but moreso in an entry-level sort of capacity. Alas, I digress...

Bah...

Oakie is smooth mixer, that's for sure... but his song selection doesn't do it for me at all. And that's about it...

He can be the most talented DJ out there, but if I don't like his tunes, what's the point...?

it's usually classic house saturdays @ system, progressive is on fridays...

and to add, oakie is wicked, always has been and will be... only it became cool to hate him in 2001 and almost everyone jumped on the bandwagon... oakie is great, period

I don't hate the guy... I just hate his song selection lately, that's all.

And I don't know what progressive you're talking about (trance maybe), but the Saturday nights for the last two months have been booked by the progressive/deep/tribal house DJs... Sure, they have a few classic house nights every month or so, but it's mostly good pumping progressive house music on Saturdays.

so i guess then people should be hating danny howells, or lee burridge, or sander k? they are at the top of their game right now...

people hate oakenfold because all that success went to his head. he doesnt give a shit about you or me, he is after the dollars right now.

as an aside, i am not putting down the people who like oakenfold. people can listen to whatever/whomever they want. i am just stating MY opinion.

sorry guys I have to agree with fantom on this one and say that although Oakenfold is a worldclass DJ, I don't like his set selection. He could be the greatest mixer and DJ in the world but if I don't like the music, then why bother going. I refuse to believe that I hopped on the so called "I hate Oakenfold" bandwagon. I believe that there are better DJ's in the world.

Take Judge Jules for instance....probably the exact opposite of Oakenfold in terms of quality of mixing and overall DJing but he plays classic tracks and can really really work the crowd....but then that is just my humble opinion.

Well, no one else is booking them in Toronto. So instead of going after what everyone else is booking, why not book something different?
