I'm most interested in uplifting, epic and melodic trance. This followed by hard trance, goa trance, psy trance. Then maybe progressive trance. Then UK hard house, garage, then prog house would probably come next.

Prog is ok, but I'll take a Matt Hardwick any day (and prog only some days). I don't know, maybe I'm too energetic, but 8 hours of prog would start to wear on me - whereas 8 hours of trance just gets me warmed up.

I'm not exactly a youngin' either (in TA terms).. Not as old as -some people- (you know who you are) but mid 20s isn't exactly 19-.

Here is another question that is relating to this. Do people move from Trance to Progressive as they mature? Grow older? Look at cheesy electronica. We've all, at some point or another, listened to it. Don't deny iT! Will trance be the same thing? Will we grow out of it? If Prog is for 19+, then it clearly hints to that.

(I wonder what'll happen if they'll play Heaven Scent @Palazoo on an ALL AGE Night.)

To TTA and drewfactor: Progressive isn't a genre on its own, I don't care what people say. Progressive trance evolved as a hybrid of tribal and ambient trance music. Epic trance was a spinoff of prog trance (it did not come first! Epic evolved from progressive!). Prog house came out of the classic Chicago house in response to the Euro cheese that was so popular at the time. Prog breaks (to the best of my knowledge) evolved out of west coast breaks and techno.

I don't know if there are other kinds of progressive music out there, but those 3 are totally different, they have different influences and evolved out of different genres. I don't see how "progressive" can be classified as a genre in and of itself, you have either prog house, prog trance or prog breaks.

But anyway, that's just my 5 cents, and there's probably someone out there that knows more than I do that will say I'm totally wrong. So sue me. Anyway, like I said before, the thread was explicitly about prog house so let's not argue that. I think the point most people have made is accessibility which is generally the truth of the matter, and I wouldn't expect it to change any time soon.

If we're talking about progressive house, there's no reason for someone who's into trance to suddenly start listening to any kind of house. If we're talking about progressive trance, they probably already listen to it...

It does not matter what age you are....
it is a matter of taste and preferences....
I like both...and I am 19+.....

Although I love all Trance in all it's forms and being one of the older ones here I can only speak from my own experience and have to agree with the 19+ statement.

Being a lover of Eletronica / Alternative / New Wave 80s I find it a closer link to Progressive Trance/House than Uplifting /Epic or Ambient.

I think it may have more to do with the way the songs are structured more than the way they actually sound.
(We all know of songs and classic examples of each gendre so I won't bother with an example).
When you actually think of how elecronica has progressed over the years and has splintered into the many factions that it has, I'm of the opinion that Uplifting/Epic/Ambient and Progressive Trance/House are their own branches with a common vein in a primodial soup of music goodness...

I see your point. I just read somewhere (they showed a timeline in a mixmag I believe) about the evolution of trance and it showed prog coming way earlier than trance. Oh well, it's so hard to pinpoint the evolution of all electronic music...it becomes futile after a while.

hmm....well I don't think age matters but I think people won't appreciate progressive until they've been into electronic music for awhile. I have been listening to trance/house for 3 years now and I'm not sick of uplifting, vocal, hard trance at all. I like a lot of house too. Some progressive is ok, but I doubt I'll ever make the shift over like a lot of you have. If anything, I'd stop listening to electronica altogether before I did that (which isn't likely in the near future anyway).
