i cant believe what im reading!?!?!?!?!

trance more complex than techno?????

WTF is that?

trance maybe melodic but it's always the same patterns and not ( anymore ) really original. While techno is way more intelligent and complex. I really believe Trance music has reached a point where it has to stop because it's getting worse and worse. Trance productions these days suck! I know there are exceptions but, hey, does anybody feels like me??

Easy. Techno is banging, very repetative beat, and its got MONOTONE written all over.

While trance is got the emotion, the melody, and is softer, plus it used a whole lot different elements, one of those are the strings.. and the ups and downs.. the uplifting.

Alright, here's my outlook. I listen to everything--Techno, Trance, House, Rock, Hip-Hop, Classical Music, Oldies...

But techno and trance are 2 entirely different forms of music. Even though they are both electronically made, they are not like each other.

From the techno that I've listened, techno has more of a "breakbeat" and "acid" sound too it. With the blips and edgier melodies and bass riffs. I can't really explain the "techno sound" it's really hard to define. Techno also uses alot of elements from hard rock aswell (from what I've listened to). Techno seems to not really rely on the melodies as much, where it relies more on the beat and basslines.

Trance however does. Trance has a more emotional and melodic sound too it. The strings and snyth pads are far more emphasized then the beat in the background. Trance seems to borrow elements from classical music in my opinion. With the climaxes and melodies. Trance doesn't really rely on the beat as much as it does it's melodies. When you listen to trance, the music is more emotional and has more feeling behind it then when you listen to techno. I'm not really sure of the BPM differences and stuff like that.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head. Trance is more emotional and Techno is more edgey. Techno reminds me of hard rock and Trance reminds me of orchestral music.

I agree with this. HOWEVER, if your usually rap/rock fanatic listens to a trance track, then to a techno track, I really doubt they'll notice the difference. All they hear is oonst oonst oonst oonst...

oonst oonst oonst

hehe

never heard the sound described like that before

I force my friends to listen to electronic music when they're in my car. One of my friends is this huge punk rocker, and he got in my car, and I had System F - Out of the Blue playing and he was like "Dude, that melody is fucking awesome!"

haha

Didn't expect that outta him.

Yeah you just gotta let people hear it for themselves...

to me

TRANCE is for people who wanna reach for the stars and gurn (although most refuse to admit it)
TECHHNO is for people who want to go absolutely nuts on the dance floor and have the skills/energy to do it.

hence, why i tend to listen to trance and grab for the stars

If you're looking for a technical definition, hmm, lemme see what I can do for you (as a fan of both genres):

Techno: 1. hard constant crashes/symbols 2. the bass line is more bouncy sounding because its not for accentuating a melody but rather to get your ass on the floor 3. if there are melodies, they are similar to progressive house in that there are a few notes (not full scales ala trance) and everything else in the song is structured based on these notes 4. there is no such thing as vocal techno unless its just some random person reiterating a line in a talking voice 5. There are breakdowns similar to trance, but unlike trance, techno breakdowns still include a beat with a reduced or removed bass line 6. The overall sound is a little more metallic and synthetic, which allows it to be more diversified than most electronic music genres.

Trance (excluding hard trance): 1. Generally more melodic than techno 2. There are usually two beatless breakdowns that would be considered the chorus portion of the song if it were rock or hip hop (verse chorus verse structure) 3. Vocals are prominent in trance and they are full length singing usually 4. Scales are heavily used and are sometimes the entire melody of a song 5. Sometimes more suited for sitting down and listening to it as opposed to dancing

Trance vs Techno = Emotional vs. Apathetic (in a good way, dance the night away and don't give a fuck)

Similarities (hard trance, like Marco V's style, seems to combine the elements of trance and techno to varying degrees): 1. 4/4 beat 2. greater than 130 beats per minute 3. majority of elements in each are produced synthetically 4. both are mislabeled frequently although both have a pretty clear definition if you listen to them attentively
