Cheese is cheese. Mostly everyone knows that its cheese. But some dont like to profess that they like cheese, so they claim it isnt, while others think that they are cheese connoisseurs, and in this arrogance, feel the need to claim everything that isnt up to their 'HIGH' standards is in fact cheese (when it probably isnt)...I hope this makes things clearer for you Mr Plees

I cringe at discussions like this. Trance originally got its cheese conotations when progressive became popular (for the short time that it did) & people like Sean Quinn started bagging trance as a way for him & his inaccessible crap to look cool. Trance will border on being cheesy. some of the stuff we listen to has commercial appeal, melody will do that. At the end of the day though, melody is what people remember & is what makes an anthem that you can play 5 years down the track. Sure, there are some really CRAP vocal trance trax, but there are also good ones. A dj's job is to find the good stuff, and most of the ones i know & that are used at 5am are good at doing this.

that's exactly what i'm talkin about. people should not have to justify their musical tastes for anybody, but with the advent of this 'cheese' bullshit, personal tastes are being dictated by other people - not the actual music.
and also since when does the sudden popularity of a song affect the overall quality of the tune? surely just cos more people like it, the song doesnt become shit all of a sudden.
okies thats enuff tough guy out of me, good topic though i must admit...

try playing that to ppl which don't like trance/hard trance and the chances are they'll all hate it and call it techno, not cheese

The Basics of Making Cheese
The process of cheesemaking is an ancient craft that dates back thousands of years. By today's standards of industrial technology, the process of cheesemaking is still a complicated one which combines both "Art" and "Science" together. The subject of cheese has been extensively investigated by many research groups in many countries. Table 2.1: Chemical Composition (%) of Milks of Selected Species of Mammals. (Data compiled from Scott (1986)).
Animal Fat Protein Milk Sugar Minerals
-------------------------------------------------
Cow 3.8 3.0 4.8 0.75
Goat 6.0 3.3 4.6 0.84
Sheep 9.0 4.6 4.7 1.00
Buffalo 6.0 3.8 4.5 0.75

yes I call them cheese! What I mean is The name hard trance should be wiped out, it should be just be called hard instead of hard trance, this sound doesnt deserve to be classified under trance. The word trance needs to be taken out. The words hard and trance should never be put together!

Yeah I agree. Trance seems like the only genre which has to justify the bad productions. Every genre has it's absolute crap tunes but for some reason everyone likes to highlight the bad trance and label it as cheese as though this rubbish somehow represents the entire trance genre. I have no doubt it's a form of tall poppy syndrome used to counteract the passion all of us tranceaddicts enjoy.
