Re: Too easily impressed?

Hmm, is it just me or are some people just too easily impressed by tunes sometimes? Especially brand new tracks. Often I'll hear all this mega hype around this sick new track, then to download and find myself thinking "Um...ok, what's the big deal?"
I dunno, I'm just not too easily impressed? Anyone else get the same thing? |
Absolutely.
I stopped allowing people from recommending tracks years ago. As well as these "omg this track is incredible" posts. I dont think I have or could ever read those if I tried....I know a lot of people agree with me on that.
If its new, someone out there is gonna rave about it like crazy. The 500 "OMG's" etc are rather entertaining as well. Kinda reminds me of a dog, you feed it anything, and it'll eat it up.
Some people are just easily impressed, some arent. I've seen my share of people on here that'll go nuts over anything, and I mean anything. I've also seen my share of people thatll go nuts over something quite simply because of the dj name/producer. I must say its unattractive and shows a serious lack of character, individuality, uniqueness, creativity, (all the things a successful DJ needs).
Just remember, if no one was easily amused/impressed/entertained, we wouldnt have half the DJs we have today. Which ofcourse, wouldnt mean anything, cuz we dont listen to them anyway.......

Please welcome a new alliance on the block, created so that people may still have a glimspe of hope. Civilized communication must prevail. Amen.

One of the things I'm a bit worried about to, is that if we don't start to demand quality, we won't get it. I recall many people in the past couple of months saying that nothing good seems to be coming out lately, or that the music in a slump. Sure, it could very well be that, but maybe it's because alot of the stuff coming out is to humor those who aren't particularly difficult to please. |
I've heard many more people saying that 2003 has been one of the best years for Trance since 1999 than that this year has been slow.
The number of high quality tracks has been incredible, tons of major releases, artist albums from the big names, and if normal Trance isn't doing it for you anymore there's also been quality Prog, Breaks, and what-have-you coming down the pike.
I notice that people can tend to get jaded by a genre of music after a certain amount of time because of a perceived lack of innovation...well, that's what genres are all about, music that's stereotypical enough to fit into a genre.
Sure, there are going to be innovative tracks, but there's never going to be a critical mass of new ideas within any genre all at once.
If you really feel that this year has been that slow I think you should start spreading your interest out (if you haven't already) into other dance (or any category really) genres to see if something else can recapture that interest and passion.
