Agreed. It emphasizes the next bassdrum hit and makes it stand out...

Btw I love it when PvD uses this effect on his mixes, but that's a little off-topic.

when I do the closed and open hihats I usually just use one sample of an open hihat, then I use the same open sound and cut it off with the AMP envelope so it sounds like a closed hihat...

that way the open and closed hihat sounds like it's taken from the same instrument so it blends good
