This is a fantastic idea, especially for new producers that can't afford to get their own tunes pressed.

Here I was thinking he had a little VB applet that stored all the tracks he has's bpm and tells him at what percentage he must put the pitch to

Also, when do you think was the last time PvD actually had to pay for a track? Getting played by him makes a track uber-popular with the PvD worshipping masses, so ppl prolly pay him to take them in the first place

it's very easy to set up. while the DJ before is spinning, you just boot up your computer, plug the both the final scratch line out cables into the line ins on the mixer (under the phono ones)

When he drops his last track, you take the phono cables on the other table, plug them into the scratch amp, flip the switch over to line, and you are good to mix in. Then when you've mixed in your first track, you take the other phono cables, switch em out and plug them into the scratch amp, and yoru good to mix into another track.

then if you want to, you just plug the phono out cables from the scratch amp back into the phono ins on the mixer, and you can switch easily between FS and vinyl. voila, no interruptions!

heh...i was joking. Someone said that he was using traktor...which then i guess would be cheating.

But he's using final scratch..which just looks like traktor (since it uses traktor's engine), final scratch isn't cheating at all..it's just like having two records. You can see the waveform and such...so it makes it a little nicer, but yes you still need djing skills built up from years of practice.

yup.... and it stinks.


here's why we aren't carrying it at Axe (anymore, we did have a couple copies)

reason #1 lag (if you're a scratch DJ you will notice it)
reason #2 linux (you need a dedicated comp with Linux...we tried running a PC with Linux, a partition and Windows, and it was really unstable...lots of crashes)
reason #3 cheap ass hardware (the 'scratch amp' is poorly manufactured)
reason #4 you can't play regular vinyl (while the rig is hooked up)
reason #5 poor support (supposedly there was full time guys on FS.com dedicated to making sure everybody's rig worked. we had crazy fluctuations in playback volume and were supposed to get a 'fix' from their support network which never came)


This is still a great concept for a software/playback interface, but notice their is no Windows system (they would not be able to get the lag down to an acceptable rate) and the Mac version has just been released and they needed help from Native Instruments in order to get the platform ready and supported.

check out Traktor... no vinyl interface, but the playback controls are really user friendly....plus it's cheap.

I run linux (mandrake 9) and windows xp on separate partitions...it's insanely stable i think they messed something up.

Linux is ridiculously stable compared to windows. That's one of the main advantages...i've never seen linux crash in my life. VERY RARELY a program can crash, but you just kill it and open it again...not like windows where it causes memory leaks all over the place and you have to restart the comp.

Maybe they got a bad installation, or their drives were messed up, or something..

think it's been stated before, but i'll reiterate.

FS tracks played through the FS vinyl is hooked up to the mixer LINE-IN. to play regular vinyl, flip your mixer to PHONO and remove the FS vinyl and put your own vinyl on. simple as that. honestly.
