Because not paying for it is theft. Not to sound preachy, because I've got loads of MP3s as well (I don't own turntables and can't really find much of the music I like on CD here in Toronto), but given an option like that, I think more people than you realize would pay for music. Especially from a more independent label like Hooj or any other small record label that people like and respect. The problem is that the record industry (with all genres of music) has ignored the new technologies and its possibilities. Now, people are just used to getting free music. In a lot of ways it's too late for the industry to try and adapt this way, but better late than never. Get used to this kind of thing, it's the future of "official" music distribution. And if you really think 1 quid per song is overpriced, you need your head examined! |
its overpriced because its will cost £5 to get the 5trks you find on the cdrs instead of £3.50 for a cd itself!!! and its inferior quality, and dosent have any pysical presence. i know when i buy a new tune i want to have something to show for it to. they should at least have a button to buy all the mixes of one track for £3.50 otherwise its a piss take.
KEY POINT:
in the instance of Locust - Valley Of Love (which is signed by lost lang if im not mistaken) there has been a cd rip floating around for aroudn a fortnight now. It isnt even scheduled by lost lang yet. if you get a higher quality cd rip up to 3 months in advance, are you telling me you will still go and buy and inferior quality wma, 3 months later?! i doubt it. however, my point is i have that mp3 of valley of love and i would be willing to buy a cd in october/november or whenever as i am collector of the discs. i would NOT (and so will alot of others) buy a crappy file.

The people who argue against having pay for d/l just because it'll end up on kazaa are misguided imo. 1st of all it's gonna be there either way, so people who never thought of buying it still wont, but the whole group of people who always say "I'd buy it if only I could use it" will now actualy have the opportunity to buy it. From a buisness standpoint it makes sense, and from a providing music to people standpoint it makes sense too.
