That letter is a load of shite. American laws carry no weight over here, and there is no provision in UK law that says ISPs have to fork over user details for suspected copyright infringement. Did they even say what law firm they were from or who they were representing? And even if someone were to obtain a court order for your details to be released from your isp (which would require quite a lot of proof) your isp would have to inform you directly that your details had been given to a 3rd party and the reasons why.

ISPs shouldnt be able to hand over personal details to 3rd party companies is right ! Totally Illegal as it goes against the Data Protection Act & you can then sue your ISP.

Only the Police etc have that power.
