If you get it matched then give it a nudge (index finger on label and give it a gentle nudge) or swipe the platter to keep it matched... all comes with practice. Soon you will learn how much to nudge swipe, and hear when its drifting.

Patience!

Before you start mixing some of the more complicated trance tunes you may want to try this?

Find two tracks in your collection that have the least going on in them. Just drum sounds would be perfect. At this stage avoid anything with that has melody and just focus on what it is you need to do which in this case is learning how to match beats. Don't worry about anything else at this point and just try and get beats to match as this skill remains the same pretty much through out DJing, it's just that you will become more efficient at picking this out as you get more and more used to hearing it. You will eventually learn to key off other things too but this is the core of Dance music DJing.
Try bringing the track you want to play in slowly... let them play together and then fade out the track that was playing previously. This may sound boring and not very complicated but it will help you to get used to the faders. I will try and post a small guide to basic placement in the next couple of days.

It is only natural that when someone DJs for the first time it will sound like a herd of charging wildebeasts but don't be put off by this. DJ skills are not gained over night but they can be learned, they just take a little time that's all. Stick with it and you will be rewarded.

Once you have gained some control over the beats and feel comfortable that you can match a hand full of 'beat based' records, we can then start to think about where to place the mix.

In addition to the speed altering methods that Freak mentioned, some people prefer to tweak the spindle (The bit that sticks through the hole on the record). Giving it a small twist in the direction of the record to speed it up and giving it a squeeze to slow it down. Use whichever method you find gives you the most control.

Just out of interest what tracks do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Oh and while I think of it, some DJs fall into the trap of buying music based on the tunes mixability factor and not if they like it or if it will work on the dance floor. Allways buy the tracks you feel you like and you would like to play them for others.

Just seen the time, gotta shoot.

Best of luck
Nem
